[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1392999] Re: On Intel 3945ABG, Wi-Fi constantly stops functioning

2014-11-27 Thread Nobody
Due to unforeseen events this all have taken much more than a couple of
minutes, heh.
Bug appears to be non-existent in 12.04.0 but I still get frequent connection
drops, although I doubt I can blame them entirely on the kernel this time.

Title:
On Intel 3945ABG, Wi-Fi constantly stops functioning

Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
Essentially, sometimes my Wi-FI simply stops functioning without
disconnecting from the network - I am unable to access any Internet
pages and all my downloading files are stuck - this, obviously, is an
undesired effect caused by a bug, as I wish to use Internet normally
without any interference. The only workaround regarding the effect of
this bug is reconnecting to the Wi-Fi network or restarting the
computer - however, the bug usually appears in chain - this means that
reconnecting or restarting usually will give me my Internet access
only for a couple of seconds or minutes until I lose it again due to
  same issue.

This bug appears frequently under normal workflow, but it is
especially common whenever I attempt to download large (1GB+) files
either via direct download or BitTorrent client. This bug is present
in earlier versions of Ubuntu(13.10, 14.04) and actually did affect
other distributions as well but it appears that it is much less severe
in 14.10 - an Ubuntu version I currently report this bug from. Default
14.10 kernel was not changed. I have made slight changes in /usr/lib
  /pm-utils/power.d/wireless(disabled Wi-Fi power savings) and
  /etc/pm/config.d/blacklist(blacklisted Wi-Fi power management) in
order to lessen the outcome of this bug but I do not think that it
have changed much and bug was present in the same form before I have
  made those changes.

I don't know, I started using Ubuntu from Saucy, I guess I could try to
download Lucid, test it and then inductively infer on the existence of
this bug in versions between Lucid and Saucy,

Title:
On Intel 3945ABG, Wi-Fi constantly stops functioning

Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Essentially, sometimes my Wi-FI simply stops functioning without
disconnecting from the network - I am unable to access any Internet
pages and all my downloading files are stuck - this, obviously, is an
undesired effect caused by a bug, as I wish to use Internet normally

reconnecting or restarting usually will give me my Internet access
only for a couple of seconds or minutes until I lose it again due to

Default

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1392999] Re: On Intel 3945ABG, Wi-Fi constantly stops functioning

2014-11-22 Thread Nobody
Hello Christopher,
First of all, I apologize for late response.
Secondly, I have updated my BIOS, and bug still persists, here is the terminal
output from those two suggested lines:
user@user:~$ sudo dmidecode -s bios-version sudo dmidecode -s
bios-release-date
[sudo] password for user:
V1.35
07/03/2008
user@user:~$
And lastly, I have noticed that I have foolishly ran i686 OS on amd64 capable
processor. Bug still persists in both versions of Ubuntu.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1392999] Re: On Intel 3945ABG, Wi-Fi constantly stops functioning

2014-11-22 Thread Nobody
Upstream Linux releases on amd64 are not affected by mentioned earlier
freeze bug, thus I was able to test Wi-Fi bug on them and this Wi-Fi
issue still persists in upstream releases.

Title:
On Intel 3945ABG, Wi-Fi constantly stops functioning

Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Essentially, sometimes my Wi-FI simply stops functioning without
disconnecting from the network - I am unable to access any Internet
pages and all my downloading files are stuck - this, obviously, is an
undesired effect caused by a bug, as I wish to use Internet normally
without any interference.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1392999] Re: On Intel 3945ABG, Wi-Fi constantly stops functioning

2014-11-18 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Nobody, as per http://us.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/drivers an update to your
BIOS is available (1.35). If you update to this following
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does it change anything? If it
doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the output of
the following terminal command:
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date

For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette
.

Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so
posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. As well, you don't
have to create a new bug report.

Once the BIOS is updated, then please mark this report Status Confirmed.

Thank you for your understanding.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1392999] Re: On Intel 3945ABG, Wi-Fi constantly stops functioning

2014-11-17 Thread Joseph Salisbury
Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer
to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest
v3.18 kernel[0].

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following
tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag:
'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot,
please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'.
Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as
Confirmed.

Thanks in advance.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1392999] Re: On Intel 3945ABG, Wi-Fi constantly stops functioning

2014-11-17 Thread Nobody
Hi Joseph,
While issue _seems_ to persist in mainline kernel, mainline kernel, due to some
newly introduced bug, makes my OS permanently freeze every 2-3 minutes, forcing
me to restart, thus, I cannot really make any solid empirical conclusion on the
state of the bug in newer versions. For now, I am marking this bug under
'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'.

  /pm-utils/power.d/wireless(disabled Wi-Fi power savings) and
  /etc/pm/config.d/blacklist(blacklisted Wi-Fi power management) in
  order to lessen the outcome
