[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1400632] Re: Can not Shut Down
OK, managed to do this... kernel-fixed-upstream kernel-fixed-upstream-3.19 Though I do not think it was the kernel that fixed it. I ended up with problems getting the PC to boot and ended up reviewing the GRUB commands. I found acpi=off and nomodeset multiple times... I removed all references to these and it started to work, boot and shutdown. Hope this ius useful to someone/future users. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1400632] Re: Can not Shut Down
Jonners59, the next step is to fully reverse commit bisect from kernel 3.13 to 3.19-rc2 in order to identify the last bad commit, followed immediately by the first good one. Once this commit has been identified, then it may be reviewed as a candidate for backporting into your release. Could you please do this following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/KernelBisection#How_do_I_reverse_bisect_the_upstream_kernel.3F ? Please note, finding adjacent kernel versions is not fully commit bisecting. Thank you for your understanding. Re: [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1400632] Re: Can not Shut Down
Ok. Update the BIOS to the latest version. Still does NOT shutdown, though does reboot. This may be because this message was sent from a mobile phone. It said if it does not do not push it as it will break the PC. I took a look at the link you sent, it was not of any use for this BIOS. I will take a look at the manufacturers website again and see if there have been any changes since the last time I tried. The Reboot works fine now, just the shutdown does not work. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1400632] Re: Can not Shut Down
Jonners59, happy holidays. Could you please test the latest upstream kernel available from the very top line at the top of the page (the release names are irrelevant for testing, and please do not test the daily folder) following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. If the test did not allow you to test to the issue (ex. you couldn't boot into the OS) please make a comment in your report about this, and continue to test the next most recent kernel version until you can test to the issue. Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version specifically you tested. If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tags: kernel-fixed-upstream kernel-fixed-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER where VERSION-NUMBER is the version number of the kernel you tested exactly shown as: kernel-fixed-upstream-3.19-rc1 This can be done by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil icon next to the word Tags located at the bottom of the bug description. If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the following tags: kernel-bug-exists-upstream kernel-bug-exists-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug's Status as Confirmed. Please let us know your results. Thank you for your understanding. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1400632 Title: Can not Shut Down Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: I have an odd problem here with my Ubuntu installation. Re: [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1400632] Re: Can not Shut Down
Christopher I tried the new BIOS 6 months ago and would not install. It said if it does not do not push it as it will break the PC. I took a look at the link you sent, it was not of any use for this BIOS. I will take a look at the manufacturers website again and see if there have been any changes since the last time I tried. The Reboot works fine now, just the shutdown does not work. Regards Jonners59 On 13 December 2014 at 20:14, Christopher M. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1400632] Re: Can not Shut Down
Jonners59, as per http://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards/RAMPAGE_IV_EXTREME/HelpDesk_Download/ an update to your BIOS is available (4901). If you update to this following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does it change anything? If it doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the output of the following terminal command: sudo dmidecode -s bios-version sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette . Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. As well, you don't have to create a new bug report. Once the BIOS is updated, then please mark this report Status Confirmed. Thank you for your understanding. ** Tags added: bios-outdated-4901 ** Attachment removed: AlsaInfo.txt https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1400632/+attachment/4280210/+files/AlsaInfo.txt ** Attachment removed: AudioDevicesInUse.txt https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1400632/+attachment/4280211/+files/AudioDevicesInUse.txt ** Attachment removed: BootDmesg.txt https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1400632/+attachment/4280212/+files/BootDmesg.txt ** Attachment removed: CRDA.txt https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1400632/+attachment/4280213/+files/CRDA.txt ** Attachment removed: CurrentDmesg.txt https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1400632/+attachment/4280214/+files/CurrentDmesg.txt ** Attachment removed: Lspci.txt https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1400632/+attachment/4280215/+files/Lspci.txt ** Attachment removed: Lsusb.txt https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1400632/+attachment/4280216/+files/Lsusb.txt ** Attachment removed: ProcCpuinfo.txt https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1400632/+attachment/4280217/+files/ProcCpuinfo.txt ** Attachment removed: ProcEnviron.txt https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1400632/+attachment/4280218/+files/ProcEnviron.txt ** Attachment removed: ProcInterrupts.txt https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1400632/+attachment/4280219/+files/ProcInterrupts.txt ** Attachment removed: ProcModules.txt https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1400632/+attachment/4280220/+files/ProcModules.txt ** Attachment removed: PulseList.txt https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1400632/+attachment/4280221/+files/PulseList.txt ** Attachment removed: UdevDb.txt https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1400632/+attachment/4280222/+files/UdevDb.txt ** Attachment removed: UdevLog.txt https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1400632/+attachment/4280223/+files/UdevLog.txt ** Attachment removed: WifiSyslog.txt https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1400632/+attachment/4280224/+files/WifiSyslog.txt ** Description changed: I have an odd problem here with my Ubuntu installation. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1400632] Re: Can not Shut Down
Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest v3.18 kernel[0]. If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'. If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'. If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot, please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'. Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as Confirmed. Thanks in advance.
