Did this issue start happening after an update/upgrade? Was there a prior kernel version where you were not having this particular problem? It works but it misses many of the typical gestures needed by a touchpad, like two fingers scrolling or side scrolling. A possible solution could be to patch the kernel to have the required driver, as you search on the web it is a very common issue among ASUS users. Here [1] you can find a patched kernel.
