[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1479322] Re: Acer Aspire M5 481T consuming power while turned off! Battery drains with system halted!

2016-07-08 Thread Dngrsone
I used this site to disable WOL before shutdown:
http://www.hecticgeek.com/2012/09/disabling-wake-on-lan-in-ubuntu-might-
save-a-tiny-bit-of-power-on-your-laptop/

This did not work.

I lose about 1% battery an hour when shutting the machine down from
Linux. WOL is off in UEFI, and Windows shutdown works the way it
should.

My machine uses a Radeon R9 M265X graphics chip, so I'm not sure it's
only a video driver issue.

@dngrsone that is the site I used to confirm that my WOL is off. Do you
have an integrated video card as well as the Radeon and can you switch
to integrated?

I wonder... wake on USB? Wake on clock?

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1479322] Re: Acer Aspire M5 481T consuming power while turned off! Battery drains with system halted!

2016-07-01 Thread Bananabob
Last night I switched from the NVIDEA drive to the Intel driver for
graphics and then powered off.

This morning my power drop was only 7% - It dropped from 100% to 93%.

So I am assuming it is a problem with the NVIDEA drivers.

Anyone care to comment

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1479322] Re: Acer Aspire M5 481T consuming power while turned off! Battery drains with system halted!

2016-06-28 Thread Bananabob
I am running Linux Mint 17.3 Cinnamon with kernel 4.2.0-18.

I power off using the Menu>Quit>Shut Down sequence. My battery indicator shows
100% at power off
When I reboot in the morning the battery indicator shows 60%.

In trying to ascertain if this was a hardware or software problem I have
tried the following:

I used the Menu>Quit>Restart sequence and let the laptop start to boot
into Windows. I then hit the power off button. The next morning on
booting into Linux Mint the battery indicator showed 100%.

I also tried just closing all applications in Cinnamon and then hitting
the power off button. On power on and reboot the next morning the
battery showed 100%.

I then tried closing all applications in Cinnamon and opening a terminal
and issuing "sudo shutdown -h now" - Next morning on reboot the battery
showed 60%ish.

I also tried Menu>Quit>Shut Down and removing the battery - Next
morning booted into Mint after reinserting the battery and power was
indicated at 100%.

This would indicate to me that the problem is related to Linux in some
way.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1479322] Re: Acer Aspire M5 481T consuming power while turned off! Battery drains with system halted!

2016-06-28 Thread Dngrsone
Running Mint 17.3 KDE on a Toshiba P55t-B5154 dual-boot with Windows 10.
If I shut down the laptop from Windows, the battery remains 100% when I
power up in the morning. If I shut down from Mint, the battery is
drained sometimes to 70%depending on time between power-down and power
up.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1479322] Re: Acer Aspire M5 481T consuming power while turned off! Battery drains with system halted!

2015-07-29 Thread Joseph Salisbury
Did this issue start happening after an update/upgrade? Was there a
prior kernel version where you were not having this particular problem?

Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer
to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest
v4.2 kernel[0].

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following
tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag:
'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as
"Confirmed".

Thanks in advance.
