[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1590125] Re: Middle mouse (wheel-click) button stopped working after upgrade to 16.04
I had the same problem when updating the BIOS in my laptop (ASUS G501VW). Didn't get middle button, nor back/forward. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1590125] Re: Middle mouse (wheel-click) button stopped working after upgrade to 16.04
Guntbert Reiter, the next step is to fully commit bisect from kernel 4.2 to 4.4 in order to identify the last good kernel commit, followed immediately by the first bad one. This will allow for a more expedited analysis of the root cause of your issue. Could you please do this following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/KernelBisection ? Please note, finding adjacent kernel versions is not fully commit bisecting. Also, the kernel release names are irrelevant for the purposes of bisecting. After the offending commit (not kernel version) has been identified, then please mark this report Status Confirmed. Thank you for your understanding. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1590125] Re: Middle mouse (wheel-click) button stopped working after upgrade to 16.04
Guntbert Reiter, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. As per the release notes from https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/P8H67V/HelpDesk_Download/ an update to your computer's buggy, insecure, and outdated BIOS is available (3707). When you update to this following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does this improve the situation? For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette . Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. Also, you don't have to create a new bug report. Once the BIOS is updated, if the problem is still reproducible: 1) Please provide the output of the following terminal command (not perform an apport-collect): sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date 2) Please make a comment specifically advising on if there was an improvement or not. 3) Please mark this report Status Confirmed. If it's not reproducible, please mark this as Invalid. Thank you for your understanding. ** Tags added: bios-outdated-3707 ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => Low ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1590125 Title: Middle mouse (wheel-click) button stopped working after upgrade to 16.04 Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: The issue looks exactly like #1581088 but I've been asked to file a separate report. xev registers buttons 1(left),3(right), 4,5 (scroll wheel), 8,9 (back, forward), but NOT 2 $ xinput list ⎡ Virtual core pointerid=2[master pointer (3)] ⎜ ↳ Virtual core XTEST pointer id=4[slave pointer (2)] ⎜ ↳ ELECOM ELECOM WIRELESS LASER MOUSE id=9[slave pointer (2)] ⎣ Virtual core keyboard id=3[master keyboard (2)] ↳ Virtual core XTEST keyboard id=5[slave keyboard (3)] ↳ Power Buttonid=6[slave keyboard (3)] ↳ Video Bus id=7[slave keyboard (3)] ↳ Power Buttonid=8[slave keyboard (3)] ↳ Eee PC WMI hotkeys id=10 [slave keyboard (3)] ↳ AT Translated Set 2 keyboardid=11 [slave keyboard (3)] ELECOM ELECOM WIRELESS LASER MOUSEid=9[slave pointer (2)] Reporting 7 classes: Class originated from: 9.
