[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1613158] [NEW] Booting with Nvidia GTX 970 hangs with an orange screen in kernels 4.7 and 4.8rc1 (but works with 4.4.0)

2016-08-14 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Public bug reported:

Booting with Nvidia GTX 970 hangs with an orange screen in kernels 4.7
and 4.8rc1 (but works with 4.4.0).

I've tried:
  * Plain yakkety 4.4.0-34-generic
  * Mainline kernel 4.7
  * Mainline kernel 4.8rc1
and only the first one works. Kernels 4.7 and 4.8rc1 freeze with a bright
orange screen.

Best I can tell, the frozen orange screen coincides with kernel log
messages:

Aug 15 11:33:04 x51 kernel: [1.788291] Console: switching to colour dummy

Aug 15 11:33:04 x51 kernel: [1.788401] nouveau :01:00.0: NVIDIA GM204

** Affects: linux (Ubuntu)

 Status: New

** Package changed: ubuntu => linux (Ubuntu)
