[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1634862] Re: PPC + kernel 4.8 swap_dup: Bad swap file entry 2c0000000016ed28
@Talat, there was not specific fix that I know of. However, 4.8.0-27 had the 4.8.1 upstream stable updates applied. The fix may have come in from upstream with these updates. I'll mark this bug as "Incomplete" for now. Just change the status back to "Confirmed" if the bug re-appears. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1634862 Title: PPC + kernel 4.8 swap_dup: Bad swap file entry 2c16ed28 Status in linux package in Ubuntu: In Progress Status in linux source package in Yakkety: In Progress Bug description: Hi on ppc machines with Ubuntu 16.10 (Yakkety Yak), after upgrading to last Ubuntu kernel (4.8), and running installation of MLNX_OFED Driver package that run a compilation jobs that equal to number of CPUs , the System hangs and we got a bad swap file message with pages and pages of the following showing, this is just a sample from the system log. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1634862] Re: PPC + kernel 4.8 swap_dup: Bad swap file entry 2c0000000016ed28
Sorry if I'm completely wrong, I just wanted to give it a shot. I tried hard to see if you have included the infamous bug that is fixed with this commit here: https://git.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-kernel- test/ubuntu/+source/linux/+git/mainline- crack/commit/?id=21f54ddae449f4bdd9f1498124901d67202243d9 but I can't find anything in the patches. I stumbled on this issue while looking something for a friend, and it looked strange, so I tried to investigate it a bit more. I have no idea about kernel programming so if I'm wrong feel free to delete my post. I started a kernel bisect between v4.8-rc8 and v4.8 final. The kernel bisect will require testing of about 7-10 test kernels. I built the first test kernel, up to the following commit: f51fdffad5b7709d0ade40736b58a2da2707fa15 The test kernel can be downloaded from: http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~jsalisbury/lp1634862 Can you test that kernel and report back if it has the bug or not? [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1634862] Re: PPC + kernel 4.8 swap_dup: Bad swap file entry 2c0000000016ed28
I'd like to perform a bisect to figure out what commit caused this regression. We need to identify the earliest kernel where the issue started happening as well as the latest kernel that did not have this issue. Can you test the following kernels and report back? We are looking for the first kernel version that exhibits this bug: 4.5 final: http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v4.5-wily/ 4.6 final: http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v4.6-yakkety/ 4.7 final: http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v4.7/ 4.8-rc1: http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v4.8-rc1/ You don't have to test every kernel, just up until the kernel that first has this bug. Thanks in advance! -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1634862 Title: PPC + kernel 4.8 swap_dup: Bad swap file entry 2c16ed28 Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: Hi on ppc machines with Ubuntu 16.10 (Yakkety Yak), after upgrading to last Ubuntu kernel (4.8), and running installation of MLNX_OFED Driver package that run a compilation jobs that equal to number of CPUs , the System hangs and we got a bad swap file message with pages and pages of the following showing, this is just a sample from the system log. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1634862] Re: PPC + kernel 4.8 swap_dup: Bad swap file entry 2c0000000016ed28
Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest v4.9 kernel[0]. If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'. If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'. Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as "Confirmed". Thanks in advance.
