[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1634862] Re: PPC + kernel 4.8 swap_dup: Bad swap file entry 2c0000000016ed28

2016-12-06 Thread Joseph Salisbury
@Talat, there was not specific fix that I know of. However, 4.8.0-27 had
the 4.8.1 upstream stable updates applied. The fix may have come in
from upstream with these updates.

I'll mark this bug as "Incomplete" for now. Just change the status back
to "Confirmed" if the bug re-appears.

2016-12-06 Thread Talat Batheesh
Hi,

we didn't see the issue on kernel 4.8.0-27-generic.

do we have fixes that related to this area in kernel 4.8.0-27-generic?

thanks,
Talat

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1634862] Re: PPC + kernel 4.8 swap_dup: Bad swap file entry 2c0000000016ed28

2016-12-05 Thread George Sofianos
Sorry if I'm completely wrong, I just wanted to give it a shot. I tried
hard to see if you have included the infamous bug that is fixed with
this commit here: https://git.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-kernel-
test/ubuntu/+source/linux/+git/mainline-
crack/commit/?id=21f54ddae449f4bdd9f1498124901d67202243d9 but I can't
find anything in the patches.

I stumbled on this issue while looking something for a friend, and it
looked strange, so I tried to investigate it a bit more.

I have no idea about kernel programming so if I'm wrong feel free to
delete my post.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1634862] Re: PPC + kernel 4.8 swap_dup: Bad swap file entry 2c0000000016ed28

2016-11-30 Thread Joseph Salisbury
I started a kernel bisect between v4.8-rc8 and v4.8 final. The kernel
bisect will require testing of about 7-10 test kernels.

I built the first test kernel, up to the following commit:
f51fdffad5b7709d0ade40736b58a2da2707fa15

The test kernel can be downloaded from:
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~jsalisbury/lp1634862

Can you test that kernel and report back if it has the bug or not? I
will build the next test kernel based on your test results.

Thanks in advance

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1634862] Re: PPC + kernel 4.8 swap_dup: Bad swap file entry 2c0000000016ed28

2016-11-29 Thread Joseph Salisbury
Thanks for the update and sorry for the delay.

I'll start a kernel bisect between v4.8-rc8 and v4.8 final. A bisect
will required testing about 10 kernels, but will tell us the commit that
introduced this regression.

Could you also test the v4.9-rc7 kernel to see if this bug is already fixed in
mainline, before we spend time on a bisect? v4.9-rc7 can be downloaded from:

http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v4.9-rc7/

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1634862] Re: PPC + kernel 4.8 swap_dup: Bad swap file entry 2c0000000016ed28

2016-10-20 Thread Joseph Salisbury
I'd like to perform a bisect to figure out what commit caused this
regression. We need to identify the earliest kernel where the issue
started happening as well as the latest kernel that did not have this
issue.

Can you test the following kernels and report back? We are looking for
the first kernel version that exhibits this bug:

4.5 final: http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v4.5-wily/
4.6 final: http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v4.6-yakkety/
4.7 final: http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v4.7/
4.8-rc1: http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v4.8-rc1/

You don't have to test every kernel, just up until the kernel that first has
this bug.

Thanks in advance!

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1634862] Re: PPC + kernel 4.8 swap_dup: Bad swap file entry 2c0000000016ed28

2016-10-19 Thread Joseph Salisbury
Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer
to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest
v4.9 kernel[0].

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following
tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag:
'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as
"Confirmed".

Thanks in advance.
