[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1687267] Re: kernel BUG at /build/linux-2NWldV/linux-4.10.0/include/linux/swapops.h:129!

2017-05-14 Thread Ehsan Akhgari
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1674838 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1674838

This affects me as well on Ubuntu 17.04 (and with less frequency on
Xubuntu 17.04) with symptoms similar to what others described above (the
graphical desktop freezing requiring a hard reset). I have noticed an
interesting pattern with this bug. I'm a Mozilla developer, and I build
Firefox on my laptop regularly and I have noticed that this bug tends to
happen a lot when I start a build on my laptop when I'm at home and am
playing something from Youtube in the background (which I tend to do a
lot!)

In the beginning I suspected perhaps something in the Firefox media
stack is involved due to the involvement of Youtube but now for a while
I had switched to playing Youtube in Chrome and still the same happens.
This time the bug was in fact triggered from Chrome, so that rules out
my previous theory. Since this happens more when I'm at home, I suspect
there is a connection to the wifi driver in my laptop somehow. I have a
Qualcomm Atheros QCA6174 (DW1820) using the open source wifi-qca6174
-firmware-dw1820 driver.

Here is the relevant parts of my syslog:

It is definitely a widespread bug as it kills both my laptop and desktop
once in 20 hours or so.

2017-05-10 Thread Robert Taylor
Sequence of events:
1) Firefox freezes.
2) Tries to force close firefox in KDE
3) Window freezes
4) Tries to kill FF using pkill
5) Does not know pkill's commands so tries to open man pkill
6) man freezes inside of terminal emulator
7) Whole system freezes. Keyboard lights do not toggle, no disk activity, can
not switch to other consoles using Ctr + Alt + F1
8) Force reset of system.

2017-05-10 Thread Tim Passingham
This affects one of my xubuntu systems as well. Is there any simple way
round it for now? An earlier or later kernel?

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1687267] Re: kernel BUG at /build/linux-2NWldV/linux-4.10.0/include/linux/swapops.h:129!

2017-05-09 Thread Devon Cooke
This is affecting both of my systems with Zesty (17.04). It appears to
freeze most frequently in Thunderbird, when it does, it takes down the
network (or, perhaps the network takes down Thunderbird). Once it
happens, other programs will gradually lock up until the whole system
hard freezes and requires a power reset to reboot. The final error is a
general protection fault.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1687267] Re: kernel BUG at /build/linux-2NWldV/linux-4.10.0/include/linux/swapops.h:129!

2017-05-01 Thread Nick B.
I think I encountered the same thing. The screen would not wake up
though I could still ssh to the system, a lot of commands were not
working, they would just hang or do nothing. Had to resort to a hard
reset. The crash just continued to loop over and over again in the logs
