2018-05-09 Thread Bump
Finally enabled bionic-proposed, and newest kernel 4.15.0-21-generic
works again, so I guess it's fixed upstream. This is part of the update
log for future reference:

Title:
linux 4.15.0-20-generic messes up plymouth and no prompt for luks
  password

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
With 4.15.0-19-generic everything works perfect. However, with
4.15.0-20-generic, when I power on the computer, the kde plymouth does
not show the textbox to enter the root volume crypts luks password.
The logo just stays there like in the attachment.

If I uninstall plymouth and remove quiet and splash from

The experienced issue is: when selecting kernel -20 to boot, it displays
the following, and never progresses to ask for luks unlock password
(other times just stays there the KDE logo but same thing, no textbox to
enter luks password):

Loading Linux 4.15.0-20-generic ...

Title:
linux 4.15.0-20-generic messes up plymouth and no prompt for luks

If I uninstall plymouth and remove quiet and splash from
  GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT= && update-initramfs -u it boots in text-
only mode and then can enter the password perfectly.

2018-05-07 Thread Joseph Salisbury
Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer
to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest
v4.17 kernel[0].

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following
tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag:
'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as
"Confirmed".

Thanks in advance.

All graphic fanciness should be removed by default by the way, it's only
there to cause problems.
