Can you try kernel parameter "acpi_osi=Linux-Dell-Video" for that? Thanks! Leaving some notes in case someone else runs into this and finds this page. I was having some problems with bumblebee (installation would hang, then the whole system would freeze when trying to reboot), and I think that broke something. I assumed it was the kernel because it was the first time booting that version and it seemed like a very serious error that happened very early in the boot process. I later hit the same with the 4.15.0-20 kernel. I think something got messed up either with grub or the initramfs.
