[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1808116] Re: 4.15 and higher kernels do not read the SD card

2019-01-01 Thread Kai-Heng Feng
The next step is bisecting the kernel to find the commit that introduced
the regression.

$ sudo apt build-dep linux
$ git clone git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git
$ cd linux
$ git bisect start
$ git bisect good v4.14-rc8
$ git bisect bad v4.15-rc1
$ make localmodconfig
$ make -j`nproc` deb-pkg
Install the newly built kernel, then reboot with it.
If the issue still happens,
$ git bisect bad
Otherwise,
$ git bisect good
Repeat to "make -j`nproc` deb-pkg" until you find the commit that causes the
regression.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1808116] Re: 4.15 and higher kernels do not read the SD card

2018-12-17 Thread Kai-Heng Feng
Would it be possible for you to do a kernel bisection?

First, find the last good -rc kernel and the first bad -rc kernel from
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/
So we can narrow down the changes between two different releases.

Do the following if you have a beefy machine:
$ sudo apt build-dep linux
$ git clone git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git
$ cd linux
$ git bisect start
$ git bisect good $(the good version you found)
$ git bisect bad $(the bad version found)
$ make localmodconfig
$ make -j`nproc` deb-pkg
Install the newly built kernel, then reboot with it.
If the issue still happens,
$ git bisect bad
Otherwise,
$ git bisect good
Repeat to "make -j`nproc` deb-pkg" until you find the commit that causes the
regression.

Title:
  4.15 and higher kernels do not read the SD card

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  4.15 and higher kernels do not read the SD card.
  kernel 4.13 reads the SD card.

  Checked with a 64GB Samsung and 16 GB card from another manufacturer.
  Also 4.19.8 kernel does not read cards
