Bug description:
  [Impact]
During heavy load, the following message may appear on the console of a
HiSilicon D06 system:

  arm-smmu-v3 arm-smmu-v3.3.auto: CMD_SYNC timeout

This is due to a bug that can also impact system performance, as the
CPU is blocked until the timeout occurs.

  [Test Case]
The Ubuntu server certification test suite hits this pretty reliably during
the stress-ng tests, although I haven't narrowed it down to exactly which test
yet.

  [Fix]
  0f02477d16980 iommu/arm-smmu-v3: Fix unexpected CMD_SYNC timeout

  [Regression Risk]
Limited to arm64 systems. This change has been upstream since 4.20 w/o any
noticed regressions (based on lack of Fixes: commits). Regressions could
manifest as a performance hit.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1818162] Re: arm-smmu-v3 arm-smmu-v3.3.auto: CMD_SYNC timeout

2019-03-15 Thread Brad Figg
This bug is awaiting verification that the kernel in -proposed solves
the problem. Please test the kernel and update this bug with the
results. If the problem is solved, change the tag 'verification-needed-
bionic' to 'verification-done-bionic'. If the problem still exists,
change the tag 'verification-needed-bionic' to 'verification-failed-
bionic'.

If verification is not done by 5 working days from today, this fix will
be dropped from the source code, and this bug will be closed.

See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how
to enable and use -proposed. Thank you!

HiSilicon D06 system:

  arm-smmu-v3 arm-smmu-v3.3.auto: CMD_SYNC timeout

This is due to a bug that can also impact system performance, as the
CPU is blocked until the timeout occurs.

  [Test Case]
The Ubuntu server certification test suite hits this pretty reliably during
the stress-ng tests, although I haven't narrowed it down to exactly which test
yet.

  [Fix]
  0f02477d16980 iommu/arm-smmu-v3: Fix unexpected CMD_SYNC timeout

  [Regression Risk]
Limited to arm64 systems. This change has been upstream since 4.20 w/o any
noticed regressions (based on lack of Fixes: commits). Regressions could
manifest as a performance hit.
