Title:
Gnome session reset after docking station disconnects

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
From time to time, GNOME session gets reset when usb-c cable from docking
station gets disconnected. All applications gets closed and completely new,
fresh GNOME session is created.
This is not happening every single time, when the cable gets disconnected but
in about 1/3 of cases.

As I remember it's happening only when laptop is suspended or have
screen locked. When the laptop is working, and screen isn't locked,
it's not happening (I could be wrong but this is my observation).

The bug is highly unpleasant because it's closing every single app on the
computer, and every single process running in the current session.
I'm almost sure it was happening for several last kernels, this is not a new
issue, I had this problem for a long time (at least for 6 months).

Attachment (20211018_210936.jpg) is related to it, it's the info I see
on the screen when the bug occurs.

  Short info:

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1967613] Re: Gnome session reset after docking station disconnects

2022-04-28 Thread as
This is getting worse with time. Right now I can't detach docking
station when session is locked (not suspended, but locked). And after
detaching computer from docking station I see one color screen, no
controls, no unlock, no login, nothing, and the only thing I can do is
to restart computer or switch to terminal and restart session.

I'm not even pasting logs, because the issue seems to be dead anyway.

Kernel: 5.13.0-40-generic

2022-04-04 Thread as
Another logs, this time the message I see during startup, for a very short
time. It takes place when laptop is attached to docking station.
I think it is related to the issue.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1967613] Re: Gnome session reset after docking station disconnects

2022-04-04 Thread as
@seb128, sure, attachment "log.txt" (journalctl -b 0) contains what you
request, and it was taken just after the issue. More or less, at ~17:05
I detached docking station, and after this I logged in and fresh GNOME
session appeared to my eyes. Immediately after logging in I gathered the
log.txt.

  Short info:
  Laptop: Thinkpad E14 Gen2 AMD, Ryzen 5 4500u,
  Sysytem: Ubuntu 21.10, GNOME 40.4.0, X11, kernel 5.13.0-39-generic,
  Docking station: Thinkpad USB-C Dock Gen2, 40AS, 20/06, 0090EU

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1967613] Re: Gnome session reset after docking station disconnects

2022-04-04 Thread as
Another case, but this time positive: laptop was suspended, docking
station has been disconnected, and after waking up (which took some
time, about 8s) everything was fine.

But, yesterday I've installed "displaylink-driver-5.5.0-59.151.run" and
I don't know if this changed the situation or nor. I don't have another
"positive case" logs prior to installation of displaylink-driver.

POSITIVE CASE:

** Description changed:

From time to time, GNOME session gets reset when usb-c cable from docking
station gets disconnected. All applications gets closed and completely new,
fresh GNOME session is created.
This is not happening every single time, when the cable gets disconnected but
in about 1/3 of cases.

As I remember it's happening only when laptop is suspended or have
screen locked. When the laptop is working, and screen isn't locked, it's
not happening (I could be wrong but this is my observation).
