[Kernel-packages] [Bug 2023927] Re: Screen flickering whe update images

2023-06-18 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Comment #7 shows the wrong driver in use - it's using software rendering
on the CPU instead of using the GPU. I cannot figure out why yet, but
generally recommend you use long term support release 22.04 instead:

** Changed in: linux-hwe-5.13 (Ubuntu)
   Status: Incomplete => New

** Also affects: xorg-server (Ubuntu)
   Importance: Undecided
   Status: New

** Summary changed:

Title:
  [focal] Screen flickering in Xorg on i7-1165G7

Status in linux-hwe-5.13 package in Ubuntu:
  New
Status in xorg-server package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  Often, when there are small changes in image displayed, an horizontal
flickering is observed. This happen for example on a mouse right button menu,
or when a hyperlink description appears on the screen bottom when mouse pointer
cross some field on a webpage, also when favorites menu appear.
  The flickering usually disappear in a few moments, sometimes (usually when a
few pixels are updating) it can last for seconds.
  This flickering is caused by a late updating of some horizontal lines, so for
awhile a few lines of previous image coexist with a majority of new ones

I switched to Wayland and the problem solved, but others arise! i.e.
the favourite menu starts not working

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 2023927] Re: Screen flickering whe update images

2023-06-16 Thread Daniel van Vugt
In that case it sounds like a driver bug.

Firstly please check you're not using the deprecated 'intel' Xorg
driver. It should be the 'modesetting' driver, although the attached
logs suggest you're already using that.

Secondly try live booting a newer Ubuntu release and tell us if it has
the same problem: https://ubuntu.com/download/desktop

Re: [Kernel-packages] [Bug 2023927] Re: Screen flickering whe update images

2023-06-16 Thread salvatore campeggio
I already did it some time ago, with no result.
I did it again now, but cat /proc/cmdline report the same result as before:

camp@camp-medion:~$ cat /proc/cmdline
BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-5.13.0-41-generic
root=UUID=cbfc0023-baf3-4a11-b0aa-6dadbd0f60f7 ro quiet splash

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 2023927] Re: Screen flickering whe update images

2023-06-16 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thanks for the bug report. Please try adding the following kernel
parameter:

  i915.enable_psr=0

to /etc/default/grub under GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT, then run:

  sudo update-grub

and reboot. Finally check to see that it's being used:

  cat /proc/cmdline

** Package changed: xorg (Ubuntu) => linux-hwe-5.13 (Ubuntu)

** Changed in: linux-hwe-5.13 (Ubuntu)
   Status: New => Incomplete
