[Kernel-packages] [Bug 2028065] Re: Support for Intel Discrete Gale Peak2/BE200

2024-01-20 Thread Nick Kay
I'm back...same computer, but running Jammy this time, fresh install.
Everything works as expected!

For anyone else wondering, you will have to make sure you're using oem
kernel 6.5 and also have the jammy proposed linux-firmware package
installed.

sudo apt install linux-oem-22.04d
sudo apt install linux-firmware/jammy-proposed

Should do the trick.

2023-12-31 Thread Nick Kay
Fresh installed 23.10 Mantic on an HP Z2 Mini G9, I manually upgraded
the wifi card to the Intel BE200 a few weeks ago...no wifi detected at
all by default, although bluetooth was working ok.

Looked in dmesg and I saw it was complaining that there was no valid
firmware image for my wifi adapter.

sudo apt-get install linux-firmware/mantic-proposed

Confirmed it grabbed 20230919.git3672ccab-0ubuntu2.5

And then rebooted, verified fixed. Thank you.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 2028065] Re: Support for Intel Discrete Gale Peak2/BE200

2023-12-29 Thread Rolo
A fresh install of 23.10 on a new ASUS Z790 Formula motherboard had no
working wifi or bluetooth for me.

journalctl showed (among other things):

iwlwifi :05:00.0: Direct firmware load for iwlwifi-gl-c0-fm-c0-80.ucode
failed with error -2
iwlwifi :05:00.0: no suitable firmware found!

kernel: Bluetooth: hci0: Failed to load Intel firmware file
intel/ibt-0291-0291.sfi (-2)

An install of the package 20230919.git3672ccab-0ubuntu2.5 from proposed
just fixed this for me - thanks!

  [Impact]

Missing firmware for Intel BE200 on Intel Meteor Lake platform.

  [Fix]

2 upstream commits needed, and the iwlwifi firmware one is in the pull request
for bug 2037390 (Add firmware for Intel CNVi AX211 on Intel Meteor Lake
platform). Rebased the second one onto PR for bug 2037390.

  [Test Case]

Boot with firmware blobs installed, and iwlwifi and btintel should probe
  successfully without error.

  [Where problems could occur]

While this introduces support for new hardware on new platforms, expect every
  possible problem.

  [Other Info]

We're to support oem-6.5/jammy, and mantic for best effort. While there is no
Noble branch yet, Noble is not nominated.

While this is rebased onto PR for bug 2037390, it makes that PR a prerequisite
  to this one.
