+++ This bug was initially created as a clone of Bug #583168 +++

Original bug was closed due to EOL. Bug is still present in FC14.
Sometimes when system starts up the system is very slow. Taking a look
at the /var/log/messages file shows a large number of entries of the
form:

Dec 16 10:31:57 kernel: [ 2711.698066] ALSA sound/usb/clock.c:233:
3:3:3: cannot set freq 16000 to ep 0x86

And a bit less but also frequently:

Dec 16 10:38:13 pulseaudio[2043]: module-alsa-card.c: Failed to find a working
profile.
Dec 16 10:38:13 pulseaudio[2043]: module.c: Failed to load module
"module-alsa-card" (argument: "device_id="0"
name="usb-046d_08c9_56B751A2-02-U0x46d0x8c9"
card_name="alsa_card.usb-046d_08c9_56B751A2-02-U0x46d0x8c9" tsched=yes
ignore_dB=no card_properties="module-udev-detect.discovered=1""):
initialization failed.

Login in is also very slow since it is unable to play the required
sounds when selecting a username to use for login; this is the first
indicator of this bug when using the system.

This problem appears to be widespread and is triggered somehow by
pulseaudio. One workaround is to remove the snd-usb-audio module, wait a
few seconds, and then load it again.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 884210] Re: PCI/internal sound not working randomly, random hangs: cannot set freq 16000 to ep 0x86 shown in syslog

2013-08-18 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
João Pinto, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any
activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If
so, could you please test for this with the latest development release
of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com
/daily-live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in
the development release from a Terminal
(Applications-Accessories-Terminal), as it will automatically gather
and attach updated debug information to this report:

apport-collect -p linux replace-with-bug-number

Also, could you please test the latest upstream kernel available following
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will allow additional
upstream developers to examine the issue. Please do not test the daily folder,
but the one all the way at the bottom. Once you've tested the upstream kernel,
please comment on which kernel version specifically you tested. If this bug is
fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tags:
kernel-fixed-upstream
kernel-fixed-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

where VERSION-NUMBER is the version number of the kernel you tested. For
example:
kernel-fixed-upstream-v3.11-rc5

This can be done by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil icon next
to the word Tags located at the bottom of the bug description. As well, please
remove the tag:
needs-upstream-testing

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the following tags:
kernel-bug-exists-upstream
kernel-bug-exists-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

As well, please remove the tag:
needs-upstream-testing

Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug's
Status as Confirmed. Please let us know your results. Thank you for your
understanding.

** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu)
   Status: Confirmed = Incomplete

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 884210] Re: PCI/internal sound not working randomly, random hangs: cannot set freq 16000 to ep 0x86 shown in syslog

2013-07-28 Thread Andrei
Similar problem with Logitech C270 Webcam in Ubuntu 13.04 _Raring
Ringtail_ – Release amd64 (20130424): cannot set freq 48000 to ep 0×86.
This release comes with kernel 3.8.0-19.

I’ve tested newer kernels:
v3.9.11-saucy/ – BUGGY
v3.10-rc1-saucy/ – Won’t boot
v3.10-rc2-saucy/ – Won’t boot
v3.10-rc3-saucy/ – Partial fixed. The message doesn’t seem to appear anymore,
in Unity I see that the microphone receives sound, but arecord can’t record it.
[1]
v3.10-rc4-saucy/ – haven’t tested it
v3.10-rc5-saucy/ – seems to work [2]
v3.11-rc2-saucy/ – seems ok too. (
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.11-rc2-saucy/ )
