I do have a 2017 (or 2018) MBP, I tried to develop KiCad on it but the keyboard (esp. this OLED bar) makes it a no-go for anything that requires typing more than a few words... I stick to my PC's keyboard/mouse and use NoMachine for remote access while working on the Mac version of KiCad.
