Hi Adam,

I have tested the 4.0.7 version from the testing directory. It seems to be
working fine for me. I have poked around a bunch and everything seems to be
working.

Platform: Mac OS X (Darwin 16.7.0 x86_64), 64 bit

Cheers,

Re: [Kicad-developers] Stable release 4.0.7 status.

2017-08-27 Thread Adam Wolf
Hi folks,

Updated 4.0.7 packages are in osx-staging-stable on the server. If
someone could test that they open up and seem to work OK they're ready
to go, otherwise I am unfortunately busy today and will not be able to
test them until tomorrow.

If someone else tests them and they seem OK they are OK to me. (They
should work--the last 4 or 5 4.0.7 release candidates worked fine, I
just don't want to release them without testing the exact files.)

So since we are updating libs now, are we updating the version number
in the docs? Otherwise reusing the docs from the last release means
the 4.0.7 docs have a front page that says 4.0.6...

I created the 4.0.7 tag on all our libs. (Well 4 footprint libs do not
have tags yet because i do not have write access to these 4 libs. The
good news is that these are very new libs with only a handful of
footprints in them.)

In particular there might be a problem if either a footprint has been

(Footprint field or footprint filters of a symbol is now wrong.)

Or if the scaling, offset or rotation of 3d models changed within a
footprints 3d model settings.

I am aware of the fact that over time the libs will again get out of
sync. (I think everyone involved with the library is aware of this fact.)
The impact of our scaling changes will be reduced if users get an update
of the 3d lib.

Github is the default for the stable 4 release.

The 3D models may break but not the footprint. Footprints are embedded
in the board file so changes in the footprint libraries do not effect
the board.

I'm not opposed to this. I'm not sure what we did for the previous
stable 4 releases. If we just tagged the libraries at the time, then we
should continue doing that for the sake of consistency.

I thought this should not happen as long as the user does not delete the

We can just fork the repository on github, point Jenkins at the fork, do
the release and send a pull request to Nick so he can update his repo
when he gets back -- the only requirement for msys2 packages to start
building is to have the library, doc and i18n packages ready, because
the PKGBUILD file needs to know the SHA256 sum of these.

Re: [Kicad-developers] Stable release 4.0.7 status.

2017-08-15 Thread Adam Wolf
I have uploaded the macosx build from this morning into the staging
directory of the server. If the release happens and I am on vacation,
someone with server access can move it over.

2017-08-15 Thread Wayne Stambaugh
Thanks Simon.

We may have to wait for Nick to get back from holiday to fire the 4.0.7
build. I'm not sure exactly when he returns so we may have to push the
release announcement back. I do not believe that I have access to this
or I would do it myself.

Re: [Kicad-developers] Stable release 4.0.7 status.

2017-08-15 Thread Simon Richter
Hi,

Took a while, but I have a Boost 1.60 package that builds, and I've run
the 4.0.6 stable build again to test it — looks good to me.

Packages are at

http://downloads.kicad-pcb.org/windows/testing/

These were built with Nick's regular KiCad-Winbuilder project from
GitHub, so the 4.0.7 release can be triggered by adjusting the version
number in the PKGBUILD-stable file in that project, Jenkins will pick it
up automatically then.

Not sure if that breaks OCE, because they also use Boost. I'm rebuilding
OCE, just to be sure, but that does not affect the stable release, only
the nightlies.

It's just a normal Windows box that isn't used for anything else.
Basically I'd have to go back to Boost 1.60 and then rebuild OCE with
our path fix against it. I'll just try it now.

I've had my msys2 pacman configured to ignore updating boost and
installed boost 1.60 so I can continue building stable KiCad releases.
I'm hoping this will be the last stable 4 release but that was my hope
with 4.0.6. How much work is it to do something similar with the msys2
package builder?

MSYS2 packages are difficult because the 4.0 branch still assumes Boost
<= 1.60, so we cannot build it against current MSYS2. Going back with
the installed Boost release breaks OCE for the nightlies, but I could do
that for the release.

[Kicad-developers] Stable release 4.0.7 status.

2017-08-12 Thread Wayne Stambaugh
Are we good to go with the 4.0.7 stable release? I have everything
ready to go to make the announcement. I know there were some package
builder issues so please let me know if I need to push this back another
week or two. Thank you everyone who makes the stable releases possible
and keep up the great work.

Cheers,
