[kicad-users] copy component from schematic to library editor

2010-02-01 Thread tom_iphi
Hi,

can somebody give me a hint how to copy a component from the schematic to
library editor?
Somehow some of my components have disappeared from the library, but I can
still see them in the schematic.

Thanks!

[kicad-users] S-100 and ECB homebrew computer templates for KiCAD/FreeRouting.net

2010-02-01 Thread lynchaj
Hi!

I've been using KiCAD/FreeRouting.net for several ECB and S-100 homebrew
computer boards. They are all free/open source so if anyone would like them
please let me know. I've found the existing boards make great templates for
your own homebrew computer projects.

The ECB boards are made of all commonly available parts on 160x100mm Eurocards
so they aren't a big deal. The S-100 boards do have some custom part
library/footprints, etc due to the 0.125 pitch card edge connector and
IEEE-696 board outline. There are about 10 ECB boards and 6 S-100 boards
available.

It's never been very clear to me how to contribute back parts to the KiCAD
project so I'll just leave this posting here in case anyone now or in the
future is interested.

Thanks and have a nice day!

Andrew Lynch

You have may have lost the path to wherever you stored the parts in
the first place.

Otherwise
Kicad maintains a cache of the sch. parts in the project
directory, (the cache file) Open the lib editor and select the cache as
the working library (it's normally right at the bottom of the list) , and
you should see your parts there. Copy them to another lib and keep then
safe.

Nope, you're wrong Tom.

If you can see them, they are there.

If I install a new KiCad without the VNWA2 libs and modules correctly copied,
I see it in the schema or pcb drawing.

Catch me on skype for a cgat.

Re: [kicad-users] S-100 and ECB homebrew computer templates for KiCAD/FreeRouting.net

2010-02-01 Thread mike
Andrew,

I think this topic came up a while back about centralizing a library repository
or some such.
Not sure if anything materialized from it yet. I know there have been a few web
page sort
of repositories sort of scattered about randomly.

I think some sort of central repository for library parts, modules, and 3D
shapes would be
an outstanding addition to KiCAD. The yahoo page has a bunch of nice parts in
the file area
but it's all sort of random and difficult to fund stuff.

I would not mind lending a hand to coordinate some sort of repository effort if
we can
agree on what a KiCAD parts repository might look like for starters.

PS. I just started using freerouting.net a short time ago, it works great,
however is it ever
slow! :) Not complaining thoughyou can't beat the price:performance ratio,
and it does do
a nice job.

PS. I am using some of Andrew's S-100 outlines/edge connector parts here:
http://www.pikeaero.com/index.php?page=s-100-in-development
Nice jobs on them, saved me tons of work there.

Regards,

Mike Sharkey

2010-02-01 Thread patrick
i did a repository a month ago for kicad on github. but i wasn't sure if
it was a good idea... i did it after seeing a post on hackaday about
this github:

http://github.com/jkantarek/Eagle-Libraries

but maybe a better way would be to use the svn of kicad? then people who
build kicad from source will get all the module and footprint from the
svn.

[kicad-users] Using the component POS file correctly

2010-02-01 Thread burnsrobbie
Hi Kicad has been great so far and prototype PCBs have been made.

The subcontractor wants a position file, while Kicad does offer the output, it
seems to be losing some components

For example I have U1 -U4 on the schematic but only U1 shows on the .POS report.

I think there may be some rules or switches in PCB tool or module Editor. I
have not yet had much luck in finding the information the manual. I think that
the problem is mostly with footprints I created or modified.

Is there anyone in the group who can help please?

Many thanks

I think it is an excellent idea. Why not use sourceforge?
