You can give him additional information in a comments layer or in some instruction, but it would be great if this were automatic. AFAIK the hole gets plated if the copper mask covers it in whole or in part. Otherwise, not plated. This worked for me with several manufacturers, without any additional info. Mihai

In any case, they are the experts, not me. As I get it the basic requirements are: ** provide as much optical contrast between the fiducial and the surrounding area ** keep the surrounding area as optically even as possible The resist-free rule may be related to the second requirement. The resist may be subject to (optical) imperfections much easier than the PCB substrate, thus the rule to keep it out of the fiducial area. It would be helpful to have a keep-out layer in Kicad. :) Mihai
Re: [kicad-users] Kicad on Fedora10 AMD64
On Mon, Feb 09, 2009 at 09:20:02PM -, william ehlers wrote: I have tried to update Kicad from the supplied 07/09/2007 version with absolutely no luck. I have a toshiba laptop with an AMD 64bit dual core processor and 4GB of memory running KDE4 desktop and Fedora 10 x86_64. When I have tried the precompiled versions by overwriting the old version my desktop crashes all the way back to the login screen. When I delete the 7/9/07 version and follow the instructions on the kicad website kicad does nothing the program does not come up at all. I see a small bouncing Kicad icon then it disappears with nothing happening. I have tried using the Windows version under wine which runs until I try PCBNEW and my computer reboots back to the login screen. I am not a software programmer so I haven't even tried the nightmare of compiling the source code. I used linux about 8 years ago and as I remember compiling code was a mind altering experience which never did work. Again I am not a software guy so problem is mine. Any and all help will be appreciated. I can provide the kicad-20081208-1.fc9.src.rpm to rebuild. It appears to work for my F10 i386, although not tested in depth. Let me know. Mihai
