Re: [Koha] Search by Title 245 subfields $a $b only

2017-03-07 Thread Layale Bassil
Hello,

I know it is an old question but I am facing a similar issue. I need to exclude
only the 780$t and 785$t. which means when I specify title in the drop down
search by, I don’t want the search to look into 780$t and 785$t however I want
the search to search by 780$t and 785$t when I select search by keywords.

How should I edit biblio-koha-indexdefs.xml file to apply this condition?

Thank you in advance,
Reagrds.

Hi Layale,

Depending on what type of installation you have, you would probably have to
edit /etc/koha/zebradb/marc_defs/marc21/biblios/biblio-koha-indexdefs.xml and
then transform it into biblio-zebra-indexdefs.xsl (or directly edit
biblio-zebra-indexdefs.xsl). But -- again, depending on the type of your
installation -- be aware of possible problems with upcoming updates.

Good luck!

Janusz

Hello,

The search is currently searching other subfields like c and returning

What files should I edit in this case?

Re: [Koha] Sorting Search Results for Arabic titles... Koha 3.14...

2016-11-29 Thread Layale Bassil
Hello Barton,

Thank you for your reply. The below suggestions have nothing to do with the
question related to sorting.

I previously made these changes to make the search work in Arabic and I believe
it is working. However sorting is not working for Arabic titles. I need to know
how does sorting work and what should I do to make it work.

Below are some answers which I didn’t know how to apply.

Any help is highly appreciated.

Layale,

The first thing you need to do is make sure that you've set up ICU chains,
which enables internationalization in Zebra.

See https://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/ICU_chains_configuration

After that, you may need to customize words-icu.xml. See the Arabic section of

Hello Mr. Massoud,

We are using Koha 3.14 in Arabic, but when we enter to the Advanced Search
(opac-search.pl) page, the list of item types is still in English. Where can I
fix this issue and enter the translations of the item types? Which files should
I edit. I checked the version you have:

perfectly translated to Arabic.

AlayKum Assalam Jesse. Thank you for your email.

You are correct. We have implemented Arabic Koha 3.18 here (

Riyadh.

My company, KnowledgeWare Technologies, is in charge of tthe ranslating task of
Koha releases to Arabic. Here is a demo site of Arabic Koha integrated with
EBSCO EDS: http://arkoha.maktabat-online.net/ .

We have also localized VuFind 2.5 to Arabic, which is a very powerful a
discovery portal that provides metasearch or federated search to all sorts of
data sources, including Koha ILS, DSpace IR, EDS/Summon eJournals as is
demonstrated here: VuFind: http://arkoha.maktabat-online.net/vufind2/

I too did not make it to KohaCon15 this year in Nigeria. I was just responding
to Mr. Brooke's nice email missing to see someone attending the conference from
the Middle East, which is unfortunate for us.

Thanks,
Massoud M. AlShareef,

One question, I was trying to delete one item manually from the database, I
deleted the item from the biblioitems table but now Koha is messed up I don’t

item was not deleted properly or all its related data.

Any suggestion here?

You can use custom CSS to hide the date due column. Add this to the

The barcode column can be hidden by turning off the OPACShowBarcode

and change the text of the Notes columns?
You'll have to be more specific about this one. What are you trying to do?

Which file do I have to edit?
Ideally you should never edit a Koha file because this makes
upgrading Koha more difficult. You should always look for ways to
use system preferences, custom CSS, or custom JavaScript to
 accomplish the changes you want.

You can use custom CSS to hide the date due column. Add this to the
 OPACUserCSS system preference:

 td.date_due, #item_datedue { display: none; }

The barcode column can be hidden by turning off the OPACShowBarcode
 system preference.

and change the text of the Notes columns?
You'll have to be more specific about this one. What are you trying to do?

Which file do I have to edit?
Ideally you should never edit a Koha file because this makes upgrading
Koha more difficult. You should always look for ways to use system
preferences, custom CSS, or custom JavaScript to accomplish the
 changes you want.

Re: [Koha] Zebra Rebuild error...

2014-06-20 Thread Layale Bassil
Hello Phillip,

Thanks a lot for the support. Yes I used to be able to rebuild Zebra many
times, and before getting the error, I did many rebuilds.

Since I had no root privileges, I asked the support team to do the rebuild
using the sudo -s and the rebuild was successful.

My problem now is that the search is still not returning any hit eventhough the
database contains 19000 records and the rebuild was successful! I would
appreciate your suggestions on this matter!

How can I fix the search in such a case?

Many thanks,
Layale.

Have you ever rebuilt Koha Zebra before?

The errors that you're getting reminds me of the first time I tried to rebuild
zebra (ubuntu ). There was a rights issue.

To rebuild zebra on ubuntu you have to use sudo -s with the rebuild command or
you get a ton of errors and a failure.

Hope this helps.

Re: [Koha] Importing data into Koha 3.14

2014-06-12 Thread Layale Bassil
Hello Hugo,

Thanks a lot! I already split the files into two files as you are suggesting
now. The point is that I have data from many different sources with different
file formats and the data is not consistent and I have to migrate all them
into Koha as a Union List. That was easy for the case of “004” but I have files
with the case, where the bib and the item are split into two records into the
same file and connected using the “001” tag, which means they have the same
“001” tag where the difference is in the LDR only where the item/holding has
“cy” or “ny” in its LDR. Do you have any suggestion on how can I split such a
file? What search can I do to be able to export all items in this case (without
having the 004 field)?

One last question if I may, I will be migrating books from different
universities, and we might have the same book in more than one university, is
there a way to link these same books under one record when searching for the
book and have the holdings list all the locations of the book? Or they will
always be imported as two different bibs and will be returned in OPAC search as
two different results?

Many Thanks for the continuous support,
Best Regards.

Ok, then I misuderstood the question..

If they're alrady in the same file, you can easly filter the records with 004
field using marcedit, I think is from archive - select selected files then
you can get a file just with records with 004, that they're the items records

There is no problem you have separate records from bib items, Koha imports
tool it is able to join both without any problem.
1st import biblio marc into koha as usuarl
2nd ajust items marc records according the 952 requirements of koha, the most
important fields 952$abop, you should map 852 into 952 the besto possible way,
i suggest to copy items.001 to some empty firlds of 952 in order to be able to
track
3rd change 004 into 001 in items.marc record
4rd create a new matching rule in koha to match the index control-number
5 import marc.items records into koha, assign match record using 001
note:make sure to not replace existing marc record in koha
nota: maje sure to ignore new records (it shouldn't be new records)
nota: configure add items.
If you do wll all these steps, the items will be attached to the right
bibliographic record

At least second record should show the item details as it contains 952 field

However, few more things need to be add in 952 field for each accession number
like location, item type, call number etc all these are possible through
marcedit and you have to explore the options given their.

I am trying to import data into Koha 3.14 from a .mrc file. I know that in
order to insert an item it has to be under tag 952. But my file has a special
structure where the items are separated from the bib record and linked to it
through tag 004. Below is a sample record with its item. I appreciate any idea
that you can give which helps me importing these records into Koha.

Hello,

I really appreciate your prompt response. I fixed the record as you suggested
and added the $p number to the 952 field but still when importing, I get a
record without items and the second record also imported separate from the
first one. Here is the record imported. Please let me know what wrong I am

Hello John,

I am facing the exact same problem trying to import records to Koha where the
items are stored under tag 945. How can I benefit from MarcEdit to do the
conversion? I can swap the fields data from 945 to 952 using the Swap Field
Utility. What about the subfields? Wont they overlap? Please advise.

Thanks.

You might be able to just map the fields to do the conversion. The MARCEdit
(http://marcedit.reeset.net/) might have the tools to help you do the
conversion.

I encountered the same problem when importing our museum's MARC21
catalog records The records were placed in the reservoir, but no
corresponding item was created for circulation. Adding an additional
952 field to each entry with the minimum set of Koha specific items
(952$a, 952$b, 952$p, 952$y), the item record was added to circulation
in addition to the catalog data.

I do not know if UNIMARC has additional implications.

Re: [Koha] How to clean Koha imported records?

2014-04-08 Thread Layale Bassil
Hello All,

Hope all is good. I followed the suggestion below: Before re-importing your
data, organize your holdings into tag 952, using the 'items' mapping at
Administration/Koha to MARC Mapping.

When I import now, I get that 20 records were successfully imported and 900
items too (as an example).
But when I open the table items, it is still empty! And the holdings of each
record are empty too while they should show the imported items. But if I open
the import_items table, I can find the imported items. Can you please advise?
Do I have to commit the import of the items or what? When does Koha store the
imported items into the items table? Or he keeps them in the import_items?

Thanks.

Subject: Re: [Koha] How to clean Koha imported records?

I had guessed that was the case from your last post, but I went to dinner
instead of answering you. Sorry.

I have not reviewed this whole thread, but I think your situation is this:
- you have a Koha instance that you want to use for production;
- you have imported bibliographic data into that instance, that you now wish to
delete;
- you did not import any items, as you had the holdings information in a field
other than 952;
- you have 'cleaned' the import batch, so it cannot now be reversed.

Is that right? Then:
- did you test any circulation transactions? If so, truncate the
'accountlines', 'issues', 'reserves', 'oldissues' and 'oldreserves' tables;
- did you import any authorities?  If so, truncate the auth_header table;
- truncate the biblio and biblioitems tables;
- truncate the zebraqueue table.

That will pretty much get you back to your configured Koha with no
bibliographic data. Before re-importing your data, organise your holdings into
tag 952, using the 'items' mapping at Administration/Koha to MARC Mapping.

And before using any more features like 'clean', read the manual. :)

That should do it. Best wishes,
Bob Birchall

 Hi Layale,

There are a lot of ways you can delete your records in KOHA, what Fischer
just told you is one option.

You may also delete your records manually by generating this SQL script to be
run in Create report from SQL

 SELECT
 items.itemnumber,items.barcode,biblio.title,items.itemcallnumber FROM
 items LEFT JOIN biblioitems on
 (items.biblioitemnumber=biblioitems.biblioitemnumber) LEFT JOIN biblio
 on (biblioitems.biblionumber=biblio.biblionumber) ORDER BY
 items.itemnumber asc

When you were able to generate the report, go to Batch Item Deletion and
paste the barcode of your item or from a blank sheet with the itemnumber of
your record you can delete it as well.

 Regards,

Hello Jerwyn,

Thanks a lot for the continuous support. In fact when I ran the below SQL
script after creating the report, I got 0 results. It seems the items were not
imported to the items table. I modified the query, I realized that the items
are in the biblio and biblioitems table but not in the items table.

SELECT biblio.title, biblioitems.biblionumber, items.itemnumber, items.barcode
FROM biblio LEFT JOIN biblioitems on
(biblioitems.biblionumber=biblio.biblionumber) LEFT JOIN items on
items.biblioitemnumber=biblioitems.biblioitemnumber order by
biblio.biblionumber asc

This one returned all the records I imported but with itemnumber and barcode
empty. They are not in the items table.

Why is that? What can I do in this case?

Maybe the only left solution is the clear the below 6 tables.

Please advise,

Hello Bob,

Thanks a lot for your valuable explanation... well your explained my case
perfectly well. I cleaned the data by truncating the needed tables and now I am
organizing my holdings into tag 952 as you suggested.

Hope the import will work now and the data will be correctly mapped.

Best Regards,

I had guessed that was the case from your last post, but I went to dinner
instead of answering you. Sorry.

I have not reviewed this whole thread, but I think your situation is this:
- you have a Koha instance that you want to use for production;
- you have imported bibliographic data into that instance, that you now wish to
delete;
- you did not import any items, as you had the holdings information in a field
other than 952;
- you have 'cleaned' the import batch, so it cannot now be reversed.

Is that right? Then:
- did you test any circulation transactions? If so, truncate the
'accountlines', 'issues', 'reserves', 'oldissues' and 'oldreserves' tables;
- did you import any authorities?  If so, truncate the auth_header table;
- truncate the biblio and biblioitems tables;

 Betreff: [Koha] Search problems

 Hi,

I am new to Koha. I basically just set-up a fresh Koha 3.14
installation on Ubuntu 13.10 using the Debian packages from
 http://debian.koha-community.org/

We are a small library with mostly Ukrainian books. We want to catalogue the
books in original language (Ukrainian) and therefore in Cyrillic script.
After testing Koha after cataloging the first couple of books I experienced
the following problem when searching in the Opac:

Whenever I entered any arbitrary combination of Cyrillic characters (not even
real words) in the search field Koha returned all records in the catalogue.
Whether there was a match or not.

If I did the same in Latin script the search only returned matching records
 only.

Searching for authorities in the worked if I searched with the is exactly
 option.
If I had starts with or contains it worked only for search in main
entry, but not for search in keyword or any heading.

Does anyone have an idea what could be wrong?

 Regards,
   Stephan

Re: [Koha] Search problems

2014-02-13 Thread Layale Bassil
Thanks a lot again for your reply. I checked all the below and they were
correct.

I just noticed that the error is coming from the Arabic characters that define
the rules inside the words-icu.xml file. For example:
transliterate rule={ الا ا /

Is there anything related to installing the Arabic support on the Koha server?

When I remove all the Arabic characters from the file, everything works fine.

Thanks again,
Regards.

 Thank you for your reply.

Yes I am trying to use Arabic alphabet with Koha. I tried the procedure in
the link below but when I rebuild Zebra I get the error.

The file words-icu.xml is in the same folder as default.idx. Any other
 suggestions?

the only other suggestions that I can do are:
-- check the owner of default.idx and words-icu.xml files. Is it the same ?

-- check the permissions of default.idx and words-icu.xml files.

-- check that words-icu.xml is a Unix file, without dos end of lines and end of
file.

I don't know more options.

[Koha] Koha Theme

2014-02-04 Thread Layale Bassil
Dear All,

I would like to know if there is a step-by-step guide to learn how to change
the look of a Koha website? Is there any ready theme that can be downloaded and
used?

Does the latest version of Koha (3.14) make it easier to change the look of
Koha?

Thanks in advance,
Regards.

Re: [Koha] Opac can't show non-latin characters correctly

2013-05-07 Thread Layale Bassil
Hello Peter,

Were you able to solve the below problem? Well I am facing this same problem
with Arabic text... when the refine your search is used, the search returns
no resutls while when searching in other areas like Cataloging, results were
returned.

Any suggestion on how to fix this problem?

Another thing, some Arabic text is split and doesn't correctly show; though I
read that Koha supports Arabic characters.

Regards,
Thanks.

Hi,

Warmly greetings.

Could anyone know why in the Refine your search column area of OPAC can
not show non-latin characters ? But in the other area of the OPAC can show
non-latin characters. Anyone know how to fix this problem? Thanks a lot.

Re: [Koha] Koha Help

2013-03-20 Thread Layale Bassil
Hello Sander,

Well thanks a lot for your reply. You are right, I guess it is a database
issue. In fact I got the Koha 3.8 version from this link:
http://download.koha-community.org/koha-3.08.10.tar.gz. Someone helped me
installing it. Can you please just explain to me how can I delete the database
and make a new one and use the Web Interface to redo the installation and from
where I can install all the samples?

Thanks again.

Regards.

Hello Bassil,

it may be a problem of the database.
Do you perform a new installation? If yes you can try to delete the database
and make a new one, then redo the installation of Koha via the Web Interface,
and install all the samples (framework, patron, etc...).

Regards
Sander

[Koha] Koha Support

2013-03-19 Thread Layale Bassil
Hello All,

I am new to Koha, we have downloaded version 3.10.3 found here
(http://download.koha-community.org/). I have couple of questions:

1- I couldn't find any documentation or tutorials which help us to start
using Koha; i.e. initial settings, etc...

2- How can we import sample data to start seeing some records in Koha?

3- We tried to create a new Framework, the code and description are always
kept empty in the grid and when we try to import a certain framework into the
newly created framework, we get an error even though the framework being
imported has the correct format (csv or sql, etc...)

4- When we try to create a new Catalog, we select the Default framework,
the new page is always empty and the fields are not being displayed to be
filled.

Above are some errors we were getting, I would like to know what might the
problem be? Is it a problem in the installation? Are we missing any settings
for Koha to start working properly? Is it a security issue?

Your help is very much appreciated...

Best Regards,
Layale.
