Re: [Koha] bug 3.14 barcode

2014-01-31 Thread Owen Leonard
i want to ask about searching barcode in koha V.3.14 , is it a bug will fix
in next version or this a not bug ?

There is no bug in 3.14 which prevents searching by barcode. Nor is
there a bug which prevents the barcode from being saved to the items
table, which you seem to be telling us is the case.

It sounds like your Koha installation has been set up in such a way
that barcode isn't being saved correctly. If there is no barcode to be
searched, then of course searching by barcode will fail.

Did you change the Koha to MARC mapping somehow?

OpacUserCSS isn't stored anywhere, it's embedded in the page itself.
You can view the source of any page in the OPAC to see the CSS you
added to OpacUserCSS.

Where are you storing the image? If you're putting your image in the

I don't have an answer to your question, but I think it's worth

Re: [Koha] CCSR and PROG

2013-11-04 Thread Owen Leonard
However, that brings up a longstanding confusion: when to use
 opaccolorstylesheet vs. opaclayoutstylesheet vs. OPACUserCSS?

This depends mostly on how much customization you want to do.

If you specify something different for opaclayoutstylesheet the
default OPAC CSS will not be included. Your custom stylesheet will
have to include a full reimplementation of the OPAC's design.

If you specify something for opaccolorstylesheet it will be included
after (and thus can override) opaclayoutstylesheet. This is usually
the way I would recommend users add customizations to their OPAC.

OPACUserCSS is useful if you cannot save your CSS customizations to a
file on a server somewhere. The contents of OPACUserCSS are included
inline on every page in the OPAC, so it's less efficient (won't be
cached by users' browsers) but will easily override anything in
opaclayoutstylesheet or opaccolorstylesheet.

The CCSR theme is a weird case because it repurposes the
opaccolorstylesheet preference for its own purposes, the the detriment
of those who want to customize. This means that if you want to take
advantage of the added efficiency of using the opaccolorstylesheet
preference you'll need to copy the contents of CCSR's default
colors.css into your custom stylesheet and add your own customizations
after that.

Or you can do it all in OPACUserCSS. I don't recommend messing with
opaclayoutstylesheet.

I hope that makes sense.

Under edit items is exactly where you should be able to correct this.
What version of Koha are you using? Does your version include batch

Current location should also be updated whenever an item is returned,

His idea was to create a fake patron, called Weeding, and check all the
 books out to the patron.

Why check the books out to a patron? For one thing, it distorts your
circulation statistics for all those records. You should probably
create a list and run your queries on that.

We'd want the report to include the
title, author, date last checked out, and total checkouts, and probably
year of publication. I don't see a way to do this using the guided reports.

Have you see the SQL reports library? Just browsing through it can be
helpful in giving a sense of what is possible. The create from SQL

my knowledge of Linux is growing but not sufficient to manage a full install

I'm not an installation expert, but based on what smarter people than

is a mistake for at least a couple of reasons: First, not many Koha
folks use the Live DVD, especially not the developers. This will make
it difficult for you to get support in the long run. Second, the
packages should make your life much easier in the long run because of
the ease of handling maintenance and upgrades.

If you're looking for help getting Koha set up, I suggest trying again
with the packages and asking questions here or in the Koha IRC

yourself to a better place for long-term maintainability.

Re: [Koha] Live DVD (Was: Master-password (katikoan) and Live-DVD)

2013-05-21 Thread Owen Leonard
You are probably right. The problem is that the potential users that I know
of here, will often give up during the manual installation, so they will
never get to any long run.

Instead of encouraging users to use the Live DVD we should encourage
them to take advantage of all the available online resources for
getting help.

it seems to be specific to single sign-on authentication with Moodle,

[Koha] Removing unused icons from Koha

2013-04-09 Thread Owen Leonard
Koha is distributed with over 1000 small image files which are not
used in a default installation. I have submitted a patch to remove
these for the sake of simplicity and in order to reduce the overall
size of Koha.

It has been speculated that some of these icons may be in use by
libraries who have customized their installations, so I ask this of my
fellow Koha libraries: Are you using any images in the
/opac-tmpl/lib/famfamfam/ folder and its subfolders in your customized
OPAC? Are there objections to removing these?

Thanks,

To elaborate, it is being suggested that you drop your Koha database

definitely not a problem with 3.10.x that will be fixed by downgrading

If you have just started using Koha and it is safe to start your

to import the default framework manually, but if something went wrong

Couldn't get an instance working is very vague. It would have been

Everything seemed to work, but - there were no books, when I searched for

This is a very common installation problem. There's even a FAQ entry for it:

We've not changed the link for Koha to point to koha-community.org, as
requested by a message on Twitter[2].

I assume that by not you mean now :)

It was my understanding that LibLime was simply a company providing
commercial support for the open source Koha product. Am I now correct in
believing that it (also?) produces a separate, closed-source product called
 LibLime Academic Koha?

LibLime does not support any version of Koha which is developed by the
Koha open source community. They support one version, LibLime Koha
4-something, which is ostensibly open source because they sometimes
push to a github repo, but which is developed exclusively by LibLime
in isolation.

They also sell LibLime Academic Koha, which is 100% closed-source,
despite being based on GPL'ed code. Both versions diverged from Koha
around version 3.2. No one from LibLime contributes back to the open
source version of Koha anymore.

No, and in fact the image you linked to does not show the old staff
interface. It looks like there is a JavaScript error. You might see
that in your staff client if you had some custom JavaScript which
wasn't working. It's also possible your browser has old JavaScript in

I would like to have a way of establishing which staff
 member did a particular transaction.

You can turn on the IssueLog system preference so that it creates an
entry in the system log every time someone checks something out. Then
you can review the logs in Tools - Log viewer.

In order for this to work in your situation you would have to have
each user logging in with their own logins. If you have one login for

choose.

Not sure how you can help? Jump on the IRC channel (

started! And with the sandboxes provided by BibLibre all you need in
order to join the fun is a web browser!

http://wiki.koha-community.org/wiki/2012-11-09_Global_bug_squashing_day

To those submitting patches, I ask again that every patch come with a
test plan outlining:

1. What the problem is.
 2. How to reproduce the problem.
 3. What the patch does to solve the problem.
 4. What (if any) configuration steps need to be taken after the patch
 is applied.
 5. What steps to take to test that the patch is working correctly.

And finally, even if you can't submit a patch or test a patch you can
simply TEST! Kick Koha's tires and see if you can break something!

Actually I think that layout isn't much different from the way Koha is
now, other than the fact that is shows more options by default. The
reason Koha doesn't show more options by default is that it was
thought it would be better not to make the advanced search page *too*
advanced. The expandedSearchOption system preference can be switched
if one disagrees.

I too think the advanced search page could be improved, but I think we
need to define (and agree on) some goals.

- improved accessibility
- improved usability (layout? labeling? help?)
- improved appearance (style)
- improved functionality

The first three are relatively easy in that they don't require
programming. The last one seems to be the one people are responding to
but is also the most difficult to accomplish.

For example, the default boolean operator is AND which is not obvious to
 even normal user.

I would contend that the normal user has no idea what a default
boolean operator is. I think we should probably focus on making both
the fewer and more views look and work better without worrying
about whether fewer should have more and vice versa.

There isn't a preference for it. You can accomplish it by adding some

});

(Where 1 is the sequential number of the tab, starting from zero).

Re: [Koha] [Koha-devel] setting up koha renewal limit

2012-10-16 Thread Owen Leonard
I am running Koha 3.06. I have been trying to set up koha renewal limit
to 1 i.e. a library user can only renew books checked out only once via
koha, after which the books need to be returned. It seems I can't get
it. How can I achieve this?

In my experience the renewal limit setting has always worked quite
well. Have you configured your circulation rules?

Re: [Koha] Avoid LiveCDs/LiveDVDs

2012-10-03 Thread Owen Leonard
It is high time to think about the development of an official live
 cd/dvd from Koha team.

If someone wants to be the maker of the official live CD/DVD all it
takes is for them to make a commitment to do so for every release. The
major problem with live CD/DVDs, as I understand it, is that they get
out of date very quickly. If someone wants to release CDs, they need
to be ready to do it for every release.

It's not possible in a project like this to say someone should do
this. You either have to do it yourself, or you have to fund someone
to do it for you.

The things we find important to do we find a way to get done.

I have managed to install KOHA but I failing to write anything on 100 tag
personal author, there is a lock, please help, where I am I going wrong.

From the FAQ entry under Cataloging, Why can’t I edit 1xx, 6xx, or
7xx fields in my catalog record?

These fields are authority controlled and you probably have the
BiblioAddsAuthorities set to ‘allow’. When it is set to ‘don’t allow’
these fields will be locked and require you to search for an existing
authority record.

Hello all currently we are using koha 3.8.4. i know this version of koha has
 Batch item
modification, this help us to change only on 952y, but my interest is to
 change the biblo
 item type i.e 942$c,

Koha does not yet have batch edit functionality for bibliographic
records. The feature has been written but it is still being tested.

As far as I know the only option for doing batch biblio edits is to
export the MARC records, batch edit in an external program like
MarcEdit, and re-import.

Re: [Koha] Koha 3.8.x: Loan for 0 days

2012-08-27 Thread Owen Leonard
I've been configuring a Circulation Rule with Zero (0) days for loans in Koha
 3.2, 3.4 and 3.6
without any problems ('Checked out on' date and 'Due date' are the same) but
 for Koha 3.8.x
this seems impossible: 'Due date' displays a date 21 days after the 'Cheked
 out on' date.

I'm guessing the fact that this worked in previous versions was a
quirk of how rules were processed rather than an explicit feature.

I assume this has changed because of the option of hourly loans in
3.8.x. Would a loan period in hours accomplish the same thing?

Re: [Koha] Problem in Amazon review integration?

2012-08-23 Thread Owen Leonard
I wonder if it is a problem with my installation only, or a more generic
one: It seems that Amazon review integration may not work.

You're right, it doesn't work. Amazon changed their API as well as the
terms under which it can be used. Koha has never been updated to work
with the changed API. The only Amazon integration that works is book
cover images because they don't require API access.

Re: [Koha] jquery and selectors

2012-08-16 Thread Owen Leonard
These seem to be Koha elements rather than standard DOM elements. How
would I know that, or am I missing something?

For the purposes of what you're doing there's no Koha versus standard
DOM. jQuery looks at whatever markup is on the page. When you see
this:

$(#memberentry_contact label[for='phone']).html(Primary Phone :);

It tells jQuery, Look for an element on the page with the ID
attribute equal to memberentry_contact. Inside that, find me a
label with the for attribute of phone. Change the text contents
of that label to Primary Phone :

In the example you first quoted, referring to opac-main-search,
there is a div on each OPAC page with that ID. If you use Firebug to
inspect the blue search bar you should be able to find it in the HTML
source.
