[Koha] My Zebra keeps dying

2017-03-13 Thread i.pr...@zigzagee.com

Hi,

Sounds like a sad problem I know but on our Koha test server (16.05) Zebra
 keeps dying.

Since Zebra affects the catalog search, the problem is you type
something in

the search field and its "No result found"

If you perform a koha-restart-zebra instance then the search is back up
and running

 again.

This wouldn't be a problem if it occurred rarely but it seems to happen
2 or 3 times

a week. How can I stop this from happening ?

Regards,
Ian

[Koha] Koha catalogue search not working

2017-02-28 Thread i.pr...@zigzagee.com

Hi,

I have attempted to perform a koha-rebuild zebra -f -a -b -v $Instance
in order to solve a search not
working problem. The result is shown below. The search still doesn't
work but
I am not sure if this is an indexing issue or is related to an issue I
have seen on the MARC
bibliographic framework test following a bit of trawling through the
Koha issue list when

I found my problem to be very similar to this one:

http://koha.1045719.n5.nabble.com/Koha-reindex-with-Zebra-doesn-t-work-td5642993.html

I also experience the same MARC test errors. Unfortunately that thread
seems to recommend
a reinstallation which I would prefer to avoid since I am pretty sure
the UNIMARC flavour was chosen

 throughout my original installation.

Ian

Re: [Koha] Search not working

2017-02-22 Thread i.pr...@zigzagee.com

Katrin,

This was my problem. Search wasn't working because there was some
confusion between UNIMARC & MARC21 during the installation. The
option to choose the flavour is presented with the koha-create $instance &
 koha 1st time web installation.

Ian

Hi Vanda,

when using UNIMARC you will have to choose it in 2 places, maybe one

Before the instance is created, you need to tell Koha that it will be
using UNIMARC. You can do so by changing ZEBRA_MARC_FORMAT="marc21" in
/etc/koha/koha-sites.conf to "unimarc". This will affect the indexing
configuration and can be the cause of why your search might not work,
when the records itself look correct.

Then, when running the web installer, you also need to make sure
UNIMARC is selected there. This will affect which cataloguing
frameworks (MARC field and subfield definitions) are installed.

Hope this helps,

Katrin

Hello Ian,

We are still unable to solve our problem. We have done everything we
were

told to do, including what you mention in your message. Unfortunately
nothing worked.

And yes, we chose UNIMARC when the package installation was
performed. My

computer collegues say that we also have some references to MARC21 in
the the koha-conf.xml file and apparently it is supposed to be that
way.

Still loking for an answer...

Vanda,

Just out of interest, did you choose UNIMARC when the package
installation

was performed ?

I did and I'm facing the same search problems as you. I note the
koha-conf.xml file seems to
have a lot of MARC21 references. Not sure if this needs to change to
UNIMARC. This was just the template file that was generated through the
installation.

I tried the koha-rebuild-zebra -f -a -b -v $instance approach
recommended

but that didn't
fix the search problems. if you want to know where it is just use
>which

koha-rebuild-zebra

[Koha] Koha catalogue search

2017-02-14 Thread i.pr...@zigzagee.com

Hi,

I have installed Koha on Debian (yay!). Version 16.05.06.000. I want to
use UNIMARC format.

I want to use the setup as a test server for SIP2. This seems to work
with ports 6001 & 8023 (raw & telnet) responding.

I can add books to the test server. I determined this by looking at
Tools->Inventory and

I can see my 4 sample book entries.

However, I would expect to find these books if I typed the title into
the catalog search. I get
the "No results" response which seems quite a common problem with Koha
setups.

From the Wiki it seems like you can use yaz-client to see if Zebra is
not working properly
(rebuilding Zebra seems to be the standard response to the "No
result" problem.)

However, when I try the yaz-client approach it sort of works, I get the
"Connection established by v3 target" response to the command:

$ *yaz-client -c /etc/koha/zebradb/ccl.properties
unix:/var/run/koha/$instance/bibliosocket*

However, when I try to search for the books using:

*Z> **base biblios*

*Z> *f Finance**
**
** I get "Search was a success" but the number of hits is 0 when I
would have expected it to find the book in the Catalog.

The Wiki on this seems to suggest yaz-client is the fall back when the
Koha search front
end returns "No results". But what do you do when yaz-client returns
no results also ?

If I sound like a Koha novice that is because I am a Koha novice, I just
want to use it as

a test tool for developing self-service kiosk software.

Regards,
Ian
