I propose removing the code related to the this system preference in order to move forward with bug 12561 - deprecating/removing non-XSLT views. Everything else matches. The problem with the OPAC XSLT results page with "OPACItemsResultsDisplay" set to "Don't show:" The preference has no effect. I am not sure if it's implemented for XSLT. I did a quick test and could see no change in my result display after switching the preference OFF/ON.
