I also need to write unit tests, but at this point I'm just trying to get something that obviously works and works well. I already want to refactor the code I have but so far it's just about getting something working as close to what we already have, which obviously isn't great. 3. Now I need to look more at C4::Templates::gettemplate, since it is expecting a CGI object in the $query variable, and I don't have one. This is needed for translations. You write some data to the buffer, enqueue an event, the event loop processes the queue (which could include other events like a new web request, some I/O, or whatever), and then you repeat the process over and over until you're out of data. This asynchronous style is not the most intuitive to write, but it does make for a much more powerful and robust web server. Sebastian also mentioned promises and async/await. The async/await (https://docs.mojolicious.org/Mojolicious/Guides/Cookbook#async-await) looks very user-friendly, but it's an *experimental* feature and requires at least Perl 5.16+ I think and preferrably 5.24+. (It's too bad they're not called $c->buffer and $c->buffer_chunk >_>.) The buffer doesn't get emptied until "generate_body_chunk" is called... and a stacktrace suggests in this case it's due to the drain event being fired. Then like Node.js, you have recursive callbacks where each callback is called by an event being fired and that callback processes 1 result and sets up the next callback. It's complicated, but it should be performant. If I wrote a native PSGI handler, it would be blocking, and if you only have 2 Starman workers, that means 1 whole worker would be occupied with streaming the results of 1 large export... I've written to the Mojolicious listserv to see if there is an easier way, but I think that's probably how it's going to go. Ahhh it's because of the join with the items table:
my $biblioitems = Koha::Biblioitems->search( $conditions, { join => 'items',
columns => 'biblionumber' } );
The code in tools/export.pl is illogical, but at least I understand my weird
results now.

I could seemingly make it work for small amounts of data, but for large amounts it didn't work, despite doing my best to follow the (limited) documentation.
