KR> Re:user fees

2009-02-28 Thread Mark
There was an old shaggy dog story years ago that (short version) went
something along the lines of: "first they came and took the bankers, and no
one spoke up, then they came and took the doctors, and no one spoke up..."
(I took out all the racial, ethnic, and religious choices so as not to
offend anyone)... and finally "and then they came for me and no one was left
to speak up."

Anyhow, you get the idea.

You know, of course, that there ARE Tea Parties being organized all
around the country. Some were this weekend, many are still coming up.
Here's a link for more information:

I'm working with the local Constitution Party contact to set one up
around here in a couple of weeks.

KR> Help Needed

2009-02-28 Thread Mark Jones
I am in bad need of a set of main bearings .010 and a set of rod bearings .010.
I have a rebuild scheduled next weekend with Mark Petz at Falcon automotive and
it seems all suppliers are sold out of this size. If anyone has these and can
do without them for a while, I could sure use them as I am desperate to get
back in the air. I will replace them with a new set as soon as they come
available again. Please e-mail me at flyk...@charter.net if you are willing to
help. Thank You

What other rights are you willing to give up. There are taking them away a
little at a time. How many young kids can stop by the airport too see the
planes. Without the young ones learning to fly I will have a hard time selling
my 3 planes.

Sorry for the soap box it just gets me how people are willing to give freedom

Today is the last day to comment on this threat to personal aviation:

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is proposing new and
sweeping restrictions on general aviation aircraft. The proposal (Docket
# TSA-2008-0021),  known as the "Large Aircraft Security Program"
(LASP), would impose new and onerous security regulations and
restrictions on owners, operators, pilots, and passengers, and on
general aviation (GA) airports that serve "large" aircraft.

As proposed, the LASP would apply only to aircraft with a maximum gross
takeoff weight (MTOW) over 12,500 pounds. But new regulations just
finalized by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security make it clear that
the government considers *all aircraft* to be potential threats --- from
747s to hot air balloons.*

That his how I wanted to answer his email but could not come up with a short
version without getting rude. That is the problem ,some people seat back and
wait. If we did not cry wolf do you really think they would back down? In Texas
when the state decided to tax Corporation only those effected acted not enough
folks to stop it. Then 3 years latter they applied the tax to LLC, LLP and up.
not a large number of people no one listened. 2 years ago they included all
business. not enough people to defend it. What do we do? Just pass it on to the
customer.  Government never stops until enough people yell.

KR> Looking for a student pilot

2009-02-28 Thread Kirk Lacewell
I'm helping a friend in Brazil who is a fellow pilot and free lance magazine
writer with his next article. We are hoping that you can help us find a subject
for his article.

My friend's name is Ruy Flemming. Ruy lives in Sao Paulo and formerly flew with
the Brazillian Air Force's "Smoke Squadron", their version of the Thunderbirds.
He is currently a corporate pilot flying an Augusta helocopter.

Ruy is planning to write an article on young student pilots around the world
and how they view their futures in flying. He has interviewed a Brazillian and
a German and is looking for a young, American student pilot to interview. He is
specifically looking for someone 16 years old.

I wonder if you might know of someone like that who would like to be
interviewed for a Brazillian flying magazine.

Thanks,

Standing around waiting for the "other shoe to drop" is not the way to keep
flying. Being the agressor is the only way to win. We need PRO-ACTIVE
legislators introducing Bills to protect GA and our FREEDOMS.. Sitting on our
hands will not work with the "new/change" group in control again. Spending
apparently is their only "solution", but all that has done is to grow more
GOVERNMENT.. Homeland Security and the TSA are two of the most recent jokes we
now have to deal with in our daily lives, whether we are flying or driving or
sitting at home watching the latest comedy on the "news"..

We need another Boston Tea Party to get these idiots we "elect" straightened
out. It seems that once they get elected they suddenly get stupid..?? Let's
get a movement started to let the PEOPLE control Congress. Stop their "instant
retirement programs and lifetime medical benefits". We need movement back to
what POLITICIANS orginally did for US, served their COUNTRY and then went back
home; no retirement, no perks for life..

Off the soap box..

KR netters,

Regarding:

> (1) proposed budget is calling for aviation user charges starting
> in 2011

   (2) ?It is often said the devil is in the details, but even with
only a few details, we are concerned,? said AOPA President Craig

It seems that almost every year the budget proposals call for some
kind of users fees which are usually attributed to the airlines'
influence and their alleged desire to get rid of the little
airplanes. if this follows the same pattern this will again be
dropped somewhere along the path.

Now regarding APOA's alarm (see second reference above.) Fifty
years ago as a young and new pilot I was energized and terrified
almost every month as AOPA came forth with a new warning that the
general aviation world as we knew it was about to end. After a few
years of this repeated cry of "wolf" I grew tired and dropped out of
the AOPA organization. I am not saying that AOPA is "bad" but the
fact is that they do seem to cry "wolf" about almost every remark
that becomes public and about many rumors that they are responsible
for making public.

History shows that most of this turns out to be nothing more than 30
second sound bites and quickly disappear.

I suggest we relax and see what exists after passing though the
filter of broadcast hysteria and then lend support to defeat serious
proposals that would end the freedom of flight as we now enjoy it.
