Lance Neibauer went the other way. Built a KR-2, decided he could
improve on it, and designed the Lancair.

Last I heard his KR was in Texas. One of the cleanest and fastest KR's
ever built I think.

KR> The saga continues

2010-09-06 Thread Dan Heath
Another long weekend, 24 more hours, and the tank building continues. I
have really been dreading the task of attaching the tanks to the spars, and
spent all day today, getting one end of one tank attached. Here is the
story, so far.

Gotta scroll down a ways thru the thumbs to get to the new stuff.

Yes, it does beat driving by a long shot. I am looking forward to the trip
almost as much as the Gathering.

KR> Sometimes so simple

2010-09-06 Thread joe.kr2s.buil...@juno.com
Hey Guys,
The past few months i have been trying to improve the cooling air and lower the
head temps. They were not that bad with the higest being about 350 at steady
state in cruise. I rebuilt all the cooling baffels, sealed things up and have
been screwing around with the outlet air opening. As i was putting the cowl
back on yesterday after some more fiberglass surgery on the lower half I
noticed that the 2" scat tube that feeds the cabin heat was hanging down in the
opening. I moved it back up into place and reattached it and went flying. The
head temps were a full 30 deg. cooler. I guess it is good to let the hot air
out.
Gathering bound,

For those of us who don't have a KR to fly yet, a flying Mac Truck spam can
(Piper Cherokee 140) is better than a driving there in Porsche of even a
Silverado.

KR. I'll take the KR any day any heavy spam can.

2010-09-06 Thread smwood
I used 6 inches nominal spacing, but changed some bolt locations so that the
bolt heads on the hinge halves would not hit each other during full aileron
down deflection. I used captive nut plates instead of stop nuts in the
aileron spars so that the hinge halves would be easily removable; I can
remove an aileron without having to remove the wing. Otherwise the aileron
hinge pin could not be pulled without removing the wing.

What is the interval between the bolts which connecting the hinges to the
wing in one side and the aileron in the other side?
