KR> Does a VW block need paint?
Darren, As a long time VW builder (40 years) I recommend you remove the paint. All paint acts as an insulator to some degree and the last thing a VW needs is more heat. I have always kept my engines bare and those of my customers. John El Paso In a message dated 8/30/2011 9:33:10 P.M. KR> Gathering hat / shirt update
I placed my last rather large order for shirts and hats and was told the supplier was out of stock on one of the sizes, large or extra large, I think, and won't be available till the week after the Gathering. The short count was about 20 shirts or so. I will be short a few shirts for those attending and will have to mail them after the Gathering. Likewise, I will wait to ship all those of the shorted size after the Gathering as part of the Gathering "rap-up". Those attending and not getting a shirt will not be charged the mailing cost. Only seems fair. Anyway, everyone wanting / ordering a shirt will get one. My month or so late to get started and late registrations caught up with me. :-) Registrations are running high, and with good weather, this should be a great year for the Gathering. I don't recall if I mentioned earlier that the Mt.Vernon airport has a new 11,800 square foot hangar this year with bath and shower for our use in addition to the bath and shower at the FBO. That's great news for all the campers. Everyone at Mt.Vernon is looking forward to the Gathering. Larry Flesner
KR> Re: CorvAircraft> Horton in EAA Experimenter
Thanks for the positive comments guys. I like to throw some positive karma around any chance that I get. GA needs all the enthousiasam it can find. I was recently going through all the old KR phot albums i could find and can't help but wonder where a lot of those folks and some very gerorgeous planes are now. I know that in all the traveling i have done over the past 6 years (over 60,000 miles) I have only seen a realatively few of the KR's that are out there somewhere.Makes me sad.Joe Horton,Coopersburg, Pa. KR> Re: Horton in EAA Experimenter
Joe, nice write up on repairs and rework on your KR. http://www.eaa.org/experimenter/articles/2011-08_winter.asp Definitely keep auto fuel out of your fuel system. The deposits in your fuel system and perhaps along with some stickiness on the throttle were residue from the Ethanol in the auto fuel dissolving the epoxy in your fuel tanks. Refiners also put Butane in their winter gasoline to aid cold weather operation. The Butane will also dissolve epoxy. Teflon is a relatively soft material; Ethanol and Butane will make Teflon even softer. Fuel tanks constructed with Vinyl Ester resin are Butane and Ethanol proof.
