KR> Need a Nose wheel assy

2011-09-26 Thread Brian G Douglas

Hi KR world.
Help! I need a Diehl nose landing gear assy. I would also like the wheel and
tire and tube assy. But the big thing that I need is the nose assy. This is
the last part that i need to finish my airplane before I get the DAR to
inspect.
The assy that I have now is like the RV series and I can't get the shimmy out
of it.

So If any one can help me please contact me off KR line. I live in Killeen
Texas and will entertain any offers

Thanks in advance

KR> 35 for 35 at AirVenture 2007

2008-10-12 Thread Brian G. Douglas
Hi Mark and all Netters! Happy New Year!
I will at this time commit to being at Oshkosh. I wanted to be at the
gathering but my KR took a dump. It just was not reliable enough to chance
a flight to IL. With that said, my KR is doing great since I added the
LightSpeed Engineering ignition and the slick 4316 to my RevMaster and
several other improvements.
I have never been to Oshkosh and know that I have to make the "Hodge" so
now I can knock out both with one stone. I know that it is either the
gathering or Oshkosh. That is all that is in this years acft budget ;-) .
I will only be able to spend about 2-3 days there so knowing when the best
time to get there and make the flyby if that comes together. I think that
it will be very hard to get 35 acft to OSH as 20 or so make it to the
Gathering.

Just My thoughts

Y Yes I do!
My KR2 with nose gear has about 480 hours Total on the 2 hobs meters that
have been installed on my acft. How much of that is flight time could be
open for talk. But I have put an honest 90 hours on mine since I got it all
together. I now have a 4316 mag from G Planes and the lightspeed
engineering on the other ignition. No sigh that I have major work left to
due. Now note that I did a COMPLETE top overhaul 90 hours ago. This was
due to the previous owner screwing it up bad. Hope it helps

KR> Re: KR Fuel Indication problem

2008-10-12 Thread Brian G. Douglas
Hi All!
I have a fuel indication problem that has baffled me. I have the header
tank. The 2 point set capacitive fuel probe with the westach fuel gauge.
Now for the problem. It has worked fine for the last 70 hours till I redid
the dash. Now on the GROUND the gauge is accurate but when I go flying
the gauge in not accurate it reads low, about 1/4 lower than it should.
It test fine. I recalibrated it with the set points. I checked the wires.
Insured that the ground was good. (I ran it to the main cockpit ground no
to my instrument ground) It does not change with different things on.
But as soon as I land it works like it should

2008-10-12 Thread Brian G. Douglas
Thanks Pete
I have a nose gear. So the level attitude both on the ground and in
flight is about the same. I did change the ground when I rewired the acft.
But I changed it in my trouble shooting procedures. Now I have not checked
the power supply to the gauge. I might put a temp wire from say the
ignition switch straight to the gauge. That is about the last thing that I
have not done that I can think of.

Thanks

KR> Excess Items from rebuild!

2008-10-12 Thread Brian G. Douglas
Hi All!
I have just completed the repair/rebuild of my KR2 after a partial engine
failure. I have the following items that are for sale to the KR comunity
first. All Prices are firm but included in the price is shipping in the
CONUS only.

First off a NARCO Escort II, VHF Nav Com. 14V This is the self contained
unit that fits in a 3 1/8 instrument hole. Depth behind panel is 10.75"
and weighs 3 lbs. Comes complete with instlation/operation manual $350.00
I removed this because when I converted to a auto plug ignition from
revmaster the ignition noise rendered the radio sificult to understand. As
the mag wires ran very close to the antena wires. I now have a hard
mounter Sporties radio.

Second an APOLLO 800 Flybudy LORAN 14 V I have the unit, mounting tray,
antena (no wire) instlation instructions and operation booklet w/ quick
reference guide. internal data base but no "Data Card" $80.00

A starter off a revmaster VW the old type that would disengauge after the
engine was started. I had it out and had the money... so I just got a new
one as it is so hard to remove when the engine is in ;-) in "AS REMOVED
CONDITION" $40.00

Last a Slick 4216 magneto the should be concidered as A "CORE" only Spruce
wants $150.00 Core and $ 75.00 including shipping.

As far as the 4216 mag, It is hard to get parts and very hard to internally
time. I would replace it with the 4316 from Great planes. 549.00 plus
shipping. Spruce has it for the same price but they want to do the core
charge thing. Also the is the argument about DUAL ignition. I have just
put the light speed engineering electronic ignition on my KR2 with a soon to
be shipped 4316 mag as secondary.

Ps does anybody need a slick 4216 mag for a core??
PPS there is a AD out on the 4216 mag for the coil. If it orange it is
supposed to be bad. Do a google search on "magneto slick 4216" and it will
fall out.

do. If you DO NOT ;-) take medicine then you are qualified. the FAA takes
up to a 9.9 A1C results (VERY bad control) at about 6.9 or so the doctor
will want to put you on medicine. the aopa list says that 7.4 or below the
FAA conceders normal for a diabetic. Plan on having to supply an EKG about
$75.00 in these parts and maybe some blood work

Long story short you CAN get your medical. Find a flight surgeon that will
work with you and a Primary care doctor that will word your "report from
treating physician" the way that it needs to be.

ANY one with Diabetes and high blood pressure please contact me off line for
any tips that I can give. Having just jumped thru the FAA hoops and renewed
for two more years.

Oh God!
I rarely post here because I just don't feel cumfy (maybe just a little
paranoid) but I'm 5'8" and 195 I consider my KR a single place with extra
room for my"stuff" . This will probably start a flame war but, STICK WITH
THE TRIGEAR!! You said that you are a low time pilot so the trigear is
best, you will do all your training in a trigear. As far as the
repairman's cert, if you have all the work that you say that has to be
done, then no problem! If you look at the kits that meet the 51 percent
rule then you know what I mean.
Spars! The KR is built like a tank need I say more?
25 pound loss loosing the tri gear? I just don't think so but as several
people say your results may vary!

2008-10-12 Thread Brian G. Douglas
Hi All!
I too second the service that I have received from Joe at Revmaster. In a
word it has been great. Now for the meat if this post. I have a revmaster
2100 with the D3000 dual mag (single drive). I am going to get the
LightSpeed Engineering system for mine and put a Bendix 4316 single mag for
redundancy.

Does any one have a magneto for sale? The single 4316 is what I'm looking
for. Condition is not all that important as I'm a A and can rebuild it.

2008-10-12 Thread Brian G. Douglas
Holy crap!
I pay just a little over $200 for a year for 1 mil liability on my KR2.
Now I do not have the policy in front of me so it might be 200 thou and
there are a few limitations (no pax and I'm the only pilot). The way that I
look at it, if I crash then that is the cost of doing business. So hull
insurance is not the way to go. I could go on about insurance but.. My
insurance company is Falcon thru EAA so..

KR> Electronic Ignition

2008-10-12 Thread Brian G. Douglas
HI All!
I have searched the archives and did not have a good answer. I have a
RevMaster 2100 with the Bendix D3000 Magneto (dual mag one drive). The mag
has started to give me worries. The impulse coupling does not snap and the
hairs on the back of my neck are standing up. Starts right up tho!
Here is the question. Light Speed engineering had a crank triggered
ignition system that seems real reliable and for about the price of rebuilt
mags, if I can get them rebuilt, Ie. Parts' replace the mag (dual ignition)
for a electronic ignition (single)
  Thoughts???

2008-10-12 Thread Brian G. Douglas
"If your tires are getting old it my be time to change them. Blew a tire on
landing today, that will keep you on your toes!! It was a lamb tire that was
8 years old. My be this Florida heat."

I agree!!
I Blew a tire on take off last week and aborted the run. I thought that I
was going to get another "blue light special" (runway light) but all was
well. When I researched tires I found that the same size tire for my KR2
came in several ply ratings. and of course I had the 4 ply. I ordered the 8
ply and flew them yesterday. All went well.
I gather these specks from wicks aircraft
2 ply 210 lbs capacity
4 ply 325 lbs capacity
6 ply 625 lbs capacity
and the 8 ply 850 Capacity.
The price difference is not all that much so get the 8 ply, so if you mush
in trying to take off on a HOT day just a little out of trim... I'm
not saying that is how I blew a tire last week but

Hope to see all at the gathering

1. 30 PSI
2. No. The side wall was ruptured and split but no damage in the tread

3. See above
4. No, but that was a tire that was on my acft when I ground looped. The
"up"side tire might have damaged it then but have 17 hours since
5. NO
6. 975 lbs including 200lb short fat white guy ;-)

I had thought of that earlier and checked. My vent is next to my venturi

I might be able to get by with just a few turns out on the adjustment

KR> Help please! High Speed Miss

2008-10-12 Thread Brian G. Douglas
Hi Gang!
I was out flying for the first time in 2 months (due to job and WX). When
during a fast low aproach at full throttle the engine skipped a beat. Just
one beat but it was heard on the ground and I d mn sure felt it. It has
done this before and I was thinking that the filter after the Gascolator was
just to much for the gravity feed carb. IE running lean, I removed the
element and it seemed better.
I have the RevMaster 2100, 350 TSN, 15 TSTOH (pistons, head, cylinders,
rings, auto spark conversion ) I have the Revflow "carb". I don't know
what jet is on it. That is one of my weak areas of knowledge.

OK gang any ideas!

PS I was thinking aboput just replacing the Revflow with a new one but need
to know what size that I need. I have the money but I do like to spend only
when I have to. Some times throwing money at a problem works and some times
it does not

less an airplane whatsoever. Just the same, at my ripe young age of 64
years, I guarantee you and the rest of the netters that I will build and fly
my very own KR-2S. With no space, no money, and while I am working 14 hours
a day, no time to do this thing, it seems absolutely impossible. Therefore,
my very dear Norm, the little paragraph about passion, and being able to
stop our busy lives and actually look at what is inside of us to see what
moves and motivates us; to examine what things wear us down and crush us, is
important to me. Why do I own a set of KR plans that are 25 years old, and
why have I allowed family needs to supercede my personal wants? Why do I
still yearn for this tiny, frail, wingy thing? Why does the KR kindle this
glow inside of me?
>
> I don't know guys. Maybe the work involved in building (even just buying
the pieces) is a no sweat thing for most of you. Perhaps for most of you,
the prospect of spending $20,000 or much more, is of no consequence. For me
it an insurmountable task. I am bound to start at the bottom and spend $50
at a time til it is done. Hell, if you have the money, just buy a Mooney
and be done with it. At least that way you can carry four people, and not
worry about time or any of the rest. Sometimes I think that I have no
business sharing the same room with you other people because I have no
money. I at least have a Private License. I am a SEL guy (single engine
land) and I have about 450 hours logged. I am Cessna trained, with 152,
172, 182, 206/207 time, and a couple of hours in the Centurian (210). I
went to school with a lawyer who owns a 210, but mostly I could NEVER afford
to rent one. I like flying the Cessna Cardinal (177) and I actually flew
the Skymaster (forgot the number) with the Illinois Air National Guard.
>
> At the present moment I have not flown for over 10 years, and I have the

ask you (all): "Do I stand a chance for success here?"

KR>Need advise - Fuel pump installation

2008-10-12 Thread Brian G. Douglas
Gezz Guys are we making this hard or what? Mine has one pump (facet) with a
left and right switch that pumps out of the wings, to the header tank. It
just dumps it into the header. I do not have a low preasure or low level
light but you can feel when the pump is pumping air. On mine the pump is
under the pax seat. Now I do not know where the origional owner got the
valve to switch tanks but...You could put switches and light all day but all
you do is create a larger problem
Now to refreash, one pump is all you need. These things (pumps) are
fairly reliable and you should be able to see if all is working well.

Hi all Kr netters
I have a revmaster 2100 in my KR, I just did a top overhaul and now (or
before I bought it) cannot get a spark out of the magneto. Long story
short, what is the gap for the magneto points?? I removed the mag after I
could not get a spark thinking that the mag was bad. This was after much
troubleshooting. I was playing with it in my hand after removal and got
shocked. I know that a CDI would be the best replacement but. just to
d expensive
