KR>firewall and spar question

2008-10-12 Thread Edwin Blocher
Justin,
Yes you get two thicknesses of 3 1/2" X 5/8" plus a 1/4" shelf top and
bottom of them.
As for Douglas Fir. It is 125% heavier (bad news), at least twice as strong,
and cheaper if you can find it than Sitka spruce. My advice is as always,"if
it ain't broke don't fix it". Stick with spruce.
It is hard to find in Aviation grade.

I was looking over the plans and for the firewall forward deck I have a
slight confusion. For the KR2S do we put 2 top firewall members (3 1/2" X
5/8") back to back?

Im also getting ready (wood shopping) for my wing spar wood. Is there
any prblem with using Duglas, anythign special I need to know before I make
a mistake?

knowing a couple things.
First. I am 5' 8" tall. How high is the average turtledeck for someone my
heigth? How to test. I have a Todd's Canopy - very flexible and oversized
so trimming is no problem. - a liitle rounder than a dragonfly.

Second - Can I move the seat support crossmember cack a couple inches to
provide 1) more headroom and 2) a more comfy seat that I can adjust with
removable back cushions or adjustable back?

KR>Work Table

2008-10-12 Thread Edwin Blocher
Since no one has replied to your question I'll say this.
I made my table 4'X12'. I wouldn't go any shorter or narrower and sometimes
wished I had another foot. I made mine so I could remove 4' after the
fuselage was complete and then had 4'X4' and 4'X8' tables. Another hint: get
at least a dozen pencils because they tend to all end up on one side of the
table :-)

KR>Grove or Diehl

2008-10-12 Thread Edwin Blocher
One other nice thing about the Grove gear is that you can get it custom made
in both height and width and designed for your max gross weight. Go to
www.groveaircraft.com ,order their catalog, fill out the form with your
measurements and get a quote. They are great people to deal with. Mine is
designed for 1200# gross weight, gun drilled and drilled for Tracey
O'Brien axels. Gear with Tracy o'Brien axels, brakes, tires and wheels
weighs a total of 49#.
