KR> Brake fluid
For the KR newbies, Mike is referring to MIL-H5606, red hydraulic fluid, that has been used in light aircraft ...almost forever. AC Spruce sells it for $4.95 /pint so really not too expensive. Stay away from other Commercial AC fluids such as Skydrol and synthetic types used on airliners. They are very corrosive if used on the wrong type of seals. I'm pretty sure Rosenhaun sold out to Matco at some point so I guess I could say I have Matco wheels and brakes, although there may be differences now. When I first changed my fluid I called Steve to ask what he recommended I use as brake fluid. His answer was to use aircraft hydraulic fluid. So I bought a quart can of it and I recall it was damned expensive but that's what I've used on both occasions when I've bled the lines and put new fluid in. My brake lines that run from the pedals to the brakes are clear so I can see the color of the fluid. It stays nice and red and my brakes always work - although I use brakes as little as possible. So . . . I don't use any of the DOT fluids. Just plain red aircraft quality hydraulic fluid. Mike KSEE Affordable Wireless Plans Set up is easy. Get online in minutes. After saying be careful I realized I don't know if my cylinders and rakes use the same fluid...they came with the fuse when I bought it...the brakes are Tracy Obrien and I think the cylinders are Hegar. I asked both what fluid to use. https://sites.google.com/site/mykr2stretch/ https://sites.google.com/site/mykr2stretch/parts-for-sale On Nov 12, 2014 12:43 PM, "Garry C via KRnet" wrote: > Well this is just great, my. KR> Brake fluid reservoir - 1/8"NPT couplings
Serge: I'd be glad to help. I assume that you need the AN840-4D "Hose Nipple". 1/8" NPT to 1/4" hose in aluminum; the hose end is beaded, not barbed, though (also available in brass). If you do need a barbed fitting, they are available in nylon; and AS has an item in 3/8" hose, material not specified ( see http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/hapages/weatherheadhoseends.php ). Re: Réf. : Re: KR> Brake fluid reservoir - 1/8"NPT couplings
Serge: Woops, cancel my earlier reply, I missed the "male NPT" part. I'll see what I can find locally(automotive) or the AN840 can still be used, you will just need AN910 couplings (unless the stackup is too long), or you want 45 or 90 degree fittings. Allen G. Serge: I think I've found what you want, go to http://www.mcmaster.com/ click on: Pipe and Pipe Fittings then:Brass Pipe Fittings and Pipe then:Pipe to Hose Adapters then:Barbed Fittings then:1/4' Hose Inner Diameter then:Female Pipe x Hose Adapter then:1/8" then click on the P/N:91465K311 to see the item description. KR> Brake fluid
Sounds like DOT 4 auto fluid. Colin
KR>Brake fluid.
I have had my brake fluid installed in my system now for several months. Down at the calipers you can see the brake lines which are transparent. What I have noticed is that the brake fluid in the last four or five inches of the lines next to the calipers has become clear and turns back to red just as the lines enter into the gear legs. What is this phenomenon? Does the red brake fluid turn transparent when exposed to sunlight after a period of time? The strange thing is the fluid in my transparent quart jar on the shelf has not discolored from red. I do not think it is air as I have full braking capabilities and the fluid gradually goes from red to clear. KR>Brake fluid
Water in the lines? There are some fluids that will actually absorb water from the humidity in the air although I don't know if silicone brake fluid is one of them. Perhaps it soaked up some water and now it is condensing out and sinking to the bottom. I would suggest bleeding the brakes from the top down and catching what you get in a cup. I do not think it is air as I have full braking capabilities and the fluid gradually goes from red to clear.
