Bill,

How about $100 KR rides to help the pilots pay for their fuel and lodging
both ways? There are quite a few that would be willing to part with a $C

Commercial operations with an Experimental? Can you say Reg violation?

A separate donation "kitty" for fuel expenses AT the Gathering might be more
appropriate for flights made there for enthusiasts, kinda like the way that
EAA Young Eagles furnish the fuel during the flights made for the Young
Eagles...

If needed have additional get togethers like we talked about before, in each
Region, well organized and encourage the pilots to fly there. I do agree it
would be nice to have one Gathering in CA as Bill Clapp suggested.

Unfortunately, Meadowlark airport is not there any longer. It is now a
bunch of condos. The closest non-controlled field is Corona where
Richard Shirley, Richard Seifert, and I are located. I wouldn't mind
having a Gathering there. It would not be a bad place for the event.
Close to major airports for those taking commercial. I guess everyone
can ponder that until Mt Vernon and decide then...

There is even a nice restaurant on the field at Corona Airport. I have eaten

Maybe someone will want to host it and pitch it at the banquet.

It is also right by Chino airport which is a wonderfull place to visit. I
don't know if doing something right at Chino would work, but certainly many
field trips there would be in order. Chino has a great heritage, especially
with homebuilts. The museums there are first rate and have some things you
won't see anywhere else. I very highly recommend for anyone that ever
happens to be in the area with extra time pay a visit there.

But now there's the "next generation KR", which an 11 year old girl who's
never flown anything can fly immediately with no PIOs. Even Bob Glidden can
handle it! If you build a KR2S there's no reason to fret over first flights
anymore. Especially if you make the CG "non-volatile" like I did.

I'm definitely up for the California Gathering. Claire and I have been
planning a desert flight for years now. Like I said, would you want to miss
the California Gathering?

I did about 20 takeoffs and landings yesterday, the last 5 being landbacks
simulating emergency landings. I made the first four easily, which were
from 500' AGL, but couldn't handle the 400' attempt. Now I know what my
limits are. This dictates that I fly off to the right (in LP traffic) so
that when I do the 180 I don't have to do much of an S turn. I'm sure my
flight instructor would not approve of me not following the centerline, and
I'm sure that violates somebody's idea of a regulation or good flying habit,
but that's the way I'm going to do it until I get over 500'. And today I
did about 10 more touch-and-go's. I was able to land and break ground again
before I got to the "target point" (I'm sure somebody objects to that as
well, and I don't care), and played around the local area, just throttled
back and looking at stuff on the ground. I did some more stalls at various
speeds and configurations (like during a full blown slip to see how much I
can get away with on landing). I parked it with 299.1 hours on it. I may
have to break 300 tomorrow...

Steve, IMHO there is another way to look at the experience. Marty made it
extremely clear that the problem was not the KR2. Under his hand his KR2
was rock steady. Marty taught me to never fly a KR2 with your elbow
floating free from your sholder. The weight of your arm is sufficient to
produce wild PIO. Once you plant your elbow against your side and only
control with your fingers and wrist the KR2 is very stable. Some people
(like me) only learn a lesson by making the mistake themselves. Light touch
does not mean unstable, it means light touch. If not for Marty Roberts, I
would not know the proper way to fly my KR2. Thanks a million Marty!
