I'm guessing those "complaints" came from "Nero" and Doran. Yes, I
threw both Nero and Doran off the list yesterday. It sure got quiet
from those two didn't it? "Being constructive" is a matter of opinion,
and unfortunately for them, it's my opinion that matters. Job well
done, I'd say. They join about thirty others that have I've unsubscribed
over the years, and the list is a better place for it. It's a pretty
high bar to get unsubscribed, so they should both be quite proud.

The current approach works fine for those who follow the rules and ask
well-thought-out questions in a succinct manner, and for those of us who
reply with real solutions to builder's problems, and will start working
for the rest when smartphone users and those "too busy" to follow the
simple rules (or spend a few minutes figuring out how) either get on
board with the program or gradually get thrown off the list to go live
with Doran and "Nero".
The "community" has been fine for decades, and it really doesn't take a
lot of brain cells to read the rules and at least make some attempt to
comply with them. Throwing malcontents overboard is a bump in the road
for some, an improvement for others. For those who are in too big a
hurry to ask a question in the proper format, there's always the
archive...if you can stand the repetition of the posts!
It's funny...neither of these guys replied, years ago when they joined
the list, to provide some basic personal information to help ensure that
they were not spammers or trolls. I received no information from
either, but let them slide because I found some evidence that each of
those email addresses was indeed involved in aviation in some way. I
should not have to sleuth new users to ensure their validity. This
should have been my clue that neither was forthcoming, nor were they
willing to be held accountable for their posts. Again, everybody on
this list is welcome to "vote with your feet" and go join them.
I find it amusing that I'm accused of slightly violating one of the
rules, when it was a response to hundreds of people repeatedly violating
the rules on a daily basis. And yes, it was in anger! I'm sorry, but
I've simply had enough of the complete disregard for those who will
search the archive for answers in the future. My guess is that those
who refuse to follow the rules have never tried to search the archive,
and therefore have no understanding of why they should bother doing
anything other than simply texting a few words and hitting the send button.
I am often told that KRnet is one of the best all-around lists devoted
to experimental airplane construction. VansAirForce no doubt wins top
honors nowadays, but RV's don't offer nearly the opportunity for
modification or improvement to the design, and are at an entirely
different level of cash outlay too. I would like to think that KRnet is
run with a conscience that is fair to all who are here to learn or assist.
As for your SOLUTION, there may be a spam filter in MailMan that will
hold or reject email containing an exact text string. Unfortunately,
what that means for me is that people will join the list (after having
NOT read the rules that were sent to them) and will try to post. Their
first reply to an email will be discarded because they didn't delete the
text that includes the string, and then they email the list owner (me)
wondering why their post didn't go through. So guess what happens to my
workload? And then, after I point them to the rules again and the
instructions to trim their post (which includes the magic text
string)...if they actually want an answer to their question, they have
to follow the rules and learn how to trim their post anyway! What's the
benefit?
It's bad enough that at least one person a day tries to send a 10MB
photo to the list (with a limit of 200KB)...I don't need to multiply
that by five. Why do I care how big the pictures are? Read the rules!
One things' for sure...I'm certainly not going to trash the current
list and archive to start another one using MajorDomo!
Is it really so hard to:
A) give us a clue what you are responding to
B) delete most of the previous post and the footer below it
C) make a significant and helpful reply
D) and give us some clue of who and where you are?
Ok, that's two hours I could have been doing something much more
constructive, but at least I defined the minimum posting requirements
for your basic idiot...A through D above.
