I got the big 60 gallon compressor years ago when I was having neighbor issues with noise. My thinking was that with the big 60 gallon tank that I could run it before it got too late then shut it off and still have air to work at night without the compressor running. Also put it in the shed behind my garage and planned on putting a muffler on the air intake and possibly building a foam box around it for sound insulation, but I was very surprised to find out that the unit was so quiet that I didn't need to do the extra effort. A second reason for the big 60 gallon tank was for painting in the humid Florida weather. I figured that I could fill the tank, wait a half hour for all the water to drain to the bottom then drain the tank and keep it shut off while painting so I could have drier air without adding a refrigerated dryer. Not sure if this works or not, but sounded like it would. Got the $179.99 sale compressor from Harbor Freight for $149.99 by using my Inside Track Club card. All of my current equipment and air accessories will work with the new higher capacity compressor. Thanks for the suggestions. Spray painting shall re-commence very soon. Sid Wood Tri-gear KR-2 N6242 Mechanicsville, MD, USA ___ Search the KRnet Archives at http://tugantek.com/archmailv2-kr/search. I recently acquired a 26 gallon upright compressor from Harbor Freight for $179. It is noisy when running, but due to the capacity, is not running all the time like the two small ones that I have. My overworking air compressor finally began showing its age and sprung a leak in the tank. I had been draining the tank every time I had used the compressor. However, the drain bung sets into the tank about 3/8-inch. So, even when the drain bung is full open, there will remain 3/8-inch of water in the tank. Water in a steel tank means rust. Just a matter of time before it rusts through. Today was the day. Only took 35 years. When you are running paint guns, air drills, blow guns, pumping up tires, etc., you got to have an air compressor that is up to the task. So, no more spray painting until I can get another air compressor. Sid Wood Tri-gear KR-2 N6242 Mechanicsville, MD, USA
