KR> Simply Folding Wing

2011-06-22 Thread Lance McBride
I have a KR-1. Last summer I built a set of folding wing brackets, similar to
the design presented, out of aluminum U channel. My design involved removing
the wings then installing the brackets and reinstalling the wings on the
brackets. You need a longer bracket at the aft than at the front of the wing
if you want the wing truely perpendicular when it's vertical. The wings tend
to rotate toward the tail when they're vertical, so the brackets need to
account for that rotation.

I can safely say that the wings will touch above the canopy. I ended up
putting some padding on the canopy that keeps the wings apart.

Also, something to consider if you're storing the plane outside is that the
wind will blow the wings down if they're not secured in the vertical position.
I ended up running a tie-down strap around the wings through the aeileron slots
and then to the wing spar anchors.

Hope that helps.

I have a folding wing Cvjetkovic CA-65 Skyfly. Only one of the wing attach
fittings are used in the folding as the rear spar is lower than the front
and not in the same "plane" as the front spar. I use an extra fitting to
extend the joining hinge points on the rear spar. It works anyway.

I have been talking with badbob0007 (Bob Johnson) and we both would
like the ability to fold our wings up and directly over the top of the
canopy for transport.
This is a basic idea on a double pivot design so the wing can have
enough clearance to fold.

Hello David,

Am s happy to see this link to the folding wing, this is my major

obstacle that's preventing me to start building as I wold like a fast and

simple folding wing instead of removing the wing after flight.

Please keep the update posted and you you mind to mail me you
building log website for me to see your progress?

Regards,

Steve
