Today, I built myself an engine pre-heater. Here is the link if you wish to see how I did it. http://www.flykr2s.com/preheater.html Mark Jones (N886MJ) Wales, WI Visit my web site: www.flykr2s.com E-mail: flyk...@wi.rr.com

Yea, I already had the torpedo heater so I did not include that in my pre-heat device. Most folks who live in cold climates already have one or some other type heater that could be adapted to. Is there a reason why you did not connect it to the torpedo heater? They also make small electric "torpedo" heaters, which I suppose would also work it you had electricity in the hangar, although, certainly not as well as this one. Great idea. See N64KR at http://KRBuilder.org - Then click on the pics See you at the 2007 - KR Gathering There is a time for building and a time for FLYING and the time for Flying has begun. Daniel R. Yes and that is described in the text on my web site. However, if you attach the device to the heater and have absolutely no open space between the heater and the device, the device will act as a venturi and increase the air flow significantly which will in turn pull the flames all the way through the piping and out the end. This, if attached to your plane like that, would without a doubt, catch your airplane on fire. With the device freestanding, you are able to adjust the amount of heat you want simply by how close you place the device to the mouth of the heater. An 8 to 10 inch distance seems to work really well. Not too hot - not too cold. The heater is a no-brainier and you can be as creative as you want on the duct work. It is very safe with no open flames, can be plugged in (both approaches require electrical service) and left to run continuos if you want. You could even add a thermostat control to the ceramic heater and place it under the cowl to keep the engine area at a constant temp 24/7 if you want. Larry Flesner

Netters, I gotta get one of them heat things... It was a frigid and clear 81 degrees yesterday here in So. California and I could only stand to fly for about an hour and a half. Yeah, but not for long...The new one is a coming :) Both Rich Shirley and Rich Seifert also flew for a bit yesterday. 2 guys came up from San Diego in their KR's for a flight of 4. I must admit, I was missing 902G. I would have went with them but I had my nephew who wanted to get a flight around the area. He went to the Dark Side and just started a RV-7 project. I advised him against it but you know how kids can be these days... ;) Steve -Original Message- That's great Steve but you're flying an airplane that only flies "backwards" so it's a toss-up as to who's better off. :-) Larry Flesner

Sorry it's not Friday, But I have added a copy of an email below from a builder in Australia, who is now not going to build a KR because he says he can not contact R & R or they will not return is calls or faxes. Very disappointing Phil Matheson VH-PKR Australia KR Web Page www.philskr2.50megs.com http://www.vw-engines.com/ Hi Phil, Thanks for adding me to the local KR list you have here in Australia but I won't be proceeding with building a KR plane. I sent Mrs Rand my money about 5 weeks ago and I have tried nearly every day for one whole month to get a few simple questions answered by her about buying kit components - but all to no avail I'm afraid. Her refusal to communicate in any way, shape or form, made me realise the futility I would face if I ever needed to actually try and order some components from RR, so I sent her a fax last week asking for my money to be refunded (though I haven't had a response to that request either). If I can't get a refund I will offer the plans up for sale as soon as the arrive. All the best to you and the other local builders. Regards Chris O'D

I had the same problem, but after about 2 weeks, I was finally able to get ahold of a nice lady from RR. Perserverence is the key, I guess. I would assume they all have real jobs outside of selling a few sets of plans a year. That guy's gotta understand that and keep trying.
