Do you still experience this problem? If so, can you test it with a more

[Bug 37313] adept_notifier shows /!\ icon during update

2006-03-30 Thread Didier Raboud
Public bug reported:

Affects: ept adept (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Minor
   Priority: (none set)
 Assignee: Kubuntu Team
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
Kubuntu Dapper Up2Date

After clic on adept_notifier, it launches adept_updater for update.
After re-fetching updates (other bug), during (long) downloading and
installation, adept_notifier should change it's state, because the /!\
has no sense.

In fact, if you launch the update and forget that you are doing it, some
could clic again on that adept_notifier and get a password prompt that
don't do anything.

So : double bug :

a. icon not changed during update (should say something like processing)

[Bug 16507] Re: Allow for Kubuntu Netboot

2006-03-30 Thread bodyguard
I’ve got a solution - or rather I want to close this bug because the solution
is in installation manual (appendix B.2.1. Loading the preseed file) for some
time: One can add pressed/file=url to the kernel initialization string or
file named preseed.cfg in the root directory of the initrd.

i386 – tested 100%
I added the following to my /tftpboot/pxelinux.cfg/default:
label kubuntu
kernel ubuntu-installer/i386/linux
append preseed/file=http:/myserver/cdrom/preseed/kubuntu.seed vga=no…

Please consider adding this to
http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/breezy/main/installer-i386/current/images/netboot/pxelinux.cfg/default
 and of course to /install/netboot/ubuntu-installer/i386/pxelinux.cfg/default
on Kubuntu CDROM.
The file kubuntu.seed should be added in archive.ubuntu.com to, and should be
referenced in above files instead of “myserver/cdrom”.

PPC
Tonight I’ll try similar procedure with ma iMac and make the same changes to
the yaboot.conf. I’ll post results tomorrow.

I don’t have 64bit processors so can’t test it

[Bug 16507] Re: Allow for Kubuntu Netboot

2006-03-30 Thread Colin Watson
The entire point of this bug is to come up with some sensible place to put the
preseed files. I don't want to simply copy them to debian-installer because
then they would get out of sync with CDs; if they're copied to
debian-installer, then some work needs to be done to ensure that that's the
canonical source for them. That is the purpose of this bug.

[Bug 37210] Re: Network unavailable on boot

2006-03-30 Thread Steph
My network card is a Broadcom 4401. Please find the output of $lspci and $lsmod
hereafter.

When the system starts up, the network is unavailable. Instead of using
systemsettings, i manually set the route and the interface:
$route add default gw 192.168.1.1
$ifconfig eth0 192.168.1.2

The network is now working. And, it is still working after the reboot (which
was not the case when I used systemsettings)!

I will redo a fresh install of Flight5 in order to make sure that this is
reproducible on my computer.

[Bug 37246] Re: Unable to browse web with Konqueror

2006-03-30 Thread Francois-Denis Gonthier
Thank you for that very useful effort from your part. I've seen screenshots,
but never videos :)

Your mime-types/protocol handlers/association are broken somewhere. I'll need
to experiment a bit to see if I can reproduce your broken setup. I don't think
this is a bug in Ubuntu or Konqueror, but we need to know how your
configuration got broken.

2006-03-30 Thread glepore70
Interesting, I've known about some funny mime-type settings on my machine,
Adobe Acrobat wants to own anything with a mime-type of
application/octet-stream. I don't know if this is related. Might there be a
setting to restore all mime-type settings to Kubuntu default?

[Bug 37210] Re: Network unavailable on boot

2006-03-30 Thread Steph
Hi,
sorry for the long post...

Well, I have done a fresh install of Flight5:

1. at startup, the network is unavailable:
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ ifconfig
eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:30:1B:B1:54:79
  inet6 addr: fe80::230:1bff:feb1:5479/64 Scope:Link
UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
  RX packets:138 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
  TX packets:6 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
  collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000
  RX bytes:19961 (19.4 KiB) TX bytes:492 (492.0 b)
  Interrupt:201

loLink encap:Local Loopback
  inet addr:127.0.0.1 Mask:255.0.0.0
  inet6 addr: ::1/128 Scope:Host
  UP LOOPBACK RUNNING MTU:16436 Metric:1
  RX packets:3 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
  TX packets:3 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
  collisions:0 txqueuelen:0
  RX bytes:172 (172.0 b) TX bytes:172 (172.0 b)

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ route
Kernel IP routing table
Destination Gateway Genmask Flags Metric RefUse Iface

2. I use System Settings Network Settings Administrator Mode

3. The eth0 interface is shown as Disabled, and there is no default gateway

4. If I click Enable interface, it stays disabled (in fact, it is Enabled
about 0.1 seconds, and then Disabled again ; but the Enable interface
button is now disactivated and the Disable interface is acivated, unless I
click again on the eth0 line)

5. In the route tab, I enter the default gateway 192.168.1.1, and then click
apply.

6. In the Network interfaces tab, I click on Enable interface and Apply (by
the way, the Reloading Network window is hidden in the background). The
interface is now enabled, and I can browse the internet.

7. I reboot, and then the network is unavailable:
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ ifconfig eth0
eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:30:1B:B1:54:79
  inet6 addr: fe80::230:1bff:feb1:5479/64 Scope:Link
UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
  RX packets:36 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
  TX packets:6 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
  collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000
  RX bytes:5531 (5.4 KiB) TX bytes:492 (492.0 b)
  Interrupt:201

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ route
Kernel IP routing table
Destination Gateway Genmask Flags Metric RefUse Iface

8. I check in System Settings Network Settings, and the default gateway field
is blank. If I do as in steps 5 6, it is ok.

9. I reboot. The network is unavailable. I enable it by typing:
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ sudo ifconfig eth0 192.168.1.2
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ sudo route add default gw 192.168.1.1

10. If I look in System Settings Network Settings, everything is ok.

11. I reboot, the network is unavailable.

12. After an apt-get dist-upgrade and a reboot, the network is working!

13. But after the next reboot, it does exactly as before. But now, after having
set the default gateway in System Settings, if I click on Enable interface,
I have the following message : Could not change device state - KDE Control
Module There was an error changing the device's state. You will have to do
it manually.

Hope this helps!

[Bug 37413] Wrong default character encoding breaks umlauts / accents

2006-03-30 Thread gero
Public bug reported:

Affects: kdepim kpilot (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
Problem:
The first sync of with KPilot resulted in broken umlauts and accents in the
KPilot databases.

Workaround:
Had to delete all databases, set the encoding in KPilot to iso 8850-1 (which
is not even a selectable option), and then sync again. That fixed it.

Proposed Solution:
KPilot should either have a default setting that works (in most cases) or ask
during installation.

This is Kubuntu Dapper Flight 5, KDE 3.5.1, KPilot 4.6.0, pilot-link 0.11.8;
Palm Tungsten E, Palm OS 5.2.1

Maybe the main problem is actually that the configuration wizard does not
handle this question at all. This is probably the place where the user should
be asked about the encoding (along with some help how on which is the right
one...). I guess this really is an upstream thing?

[Bug 37423] says i do not have permission to use cdrecord

2006-03-30 Thread don hardaway
Public bug reported:

Affects: k3b (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
I am using a Dell Inspiron 6000. When I try to burn a cd it says I do
not have permission to use cdrecord. Strangely, when I attach a usb
disk drive, it will let me read it but will not let me write to it
saying i do not have permission. When i try to set the permission to
write it will not let me and the root is the owner. Using Dapper on my
Dell Latitude 800 it works fine with k3b and usb drives. I wonder if it
has to do with the io controller on the Inspiron 6000--sata drive is on
it.

[Bug 37248] Re: AmaroK tries to play MP3 without support - Should give an error

2006-03-30 Thread ironstorm
This is definately a bug... I became quite frustrated trying to figure out
why AmaroK was refusing to play MP3s and Shoutcast streams. I had thought it
either a conflict with artsd or a bug in AmaroK itself, because both MP3s and
Shoutcast streams worked as expected in XMMS.

Eventually, I thought to try to play the MP3s in xine-ui and discovered xine-ui
immediately popped up a message saying something like MP3 VBR type (0x0) codec
not recgonized... Because of that error I eventually figured out that it was
because libxine-extracodecs was missing.

Some options to fix this issue would be to fix the dependancies for AmaroK to
require libxine-extracodecs or to fix the config so that they don't include MP3
support without the libs being there (since the upstream says its a packaging
issue: http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=124540).

Cheers,
-G
