[Bug 114996] Konqueror does not open external URL in the right window
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: konqueror Scenario: Konqueror is set to open externally called URLs in an existing Konqueror tab and several Konqueror windows are open at once on the desktop. When an external application asks Konqueror to open a URL, the choice of which of the the existing windows to open it in is usually not what I would expect, and the window in which the URL is opened is not raised. My suggestion: if no Konqueror windows are open on the same desktop as the external application, open a new one anyway. If non-minimised Konqueror windows are open on the same desktop, select the most recently used one and raise it to the top of the window stack. I don't know if it is relevant, but I performed the Feisty upgrade logged on as a different user - not the one experiencing the problems. I was actually upgrading the system of a friend, so I used my own account to do the upgrade. When I log on as the user which performed the upgrade (myself), everything is fine. When my friend logs on as himself, Konqueror is broken. Could it be that the upgrade tool works only on the current user's profile ? That would be a major problem, but one that not necessarily many people would see. I took the basic idea from your advice about the profiles and managed to fix the problem. Thanks! However I didn't follow it exactly. Instead, here is what I did: - First of all, my Konqueror didn't have the Settings / Load View Profiles menu item at all ! Talk about unpleasant surprise :-) Fortunately, when started as a web browser more menus appeared and I managed to get to the view profiles dialog box. - I noticed that in the _working_ user's settings, the view profiles were called Web Browsing and File Browsing. In the _broken_ user they were called Kubuntu Web Browsing and Kubuntu File Browsing. - I loaded Kubuntu File Browsing and saved it again. I have literally spent probably 20 hours trying to figure this problem out. Chatting on the IRC, chatting on the qunu, reinstalling packages, etc. I never thought to disable knetwork manager. I'm running ubuntu 7.04, and certain parts of networking for KDE apps fail when knetworkmanager is running. For instance: Konqueror usually works regardless. Amarok will not upload track play information to last.fm, kopete will not log on to MSN (but will log on to other networks), and Kmail will not connect to my IMAP server. When I stop knetwork manager, all these apps work fine.
