I don't see a difference in the test case myself though, but I'm not sure if the test case should eg create the file with some certain permissions to mimick old/new Qt behavior. [Bug 1454848] [NEW] Kubuntu 15.04 Kate, black screen after system restart
Public bug reported: I have upgraded Kubuntu 14.10 t0 15.04 on my Dell XPS702 laptop. After editing conky.conf file (with Kate) and restarting the system, I could only log in and then black screen appeared (just with mouse pointer visible). I have tried (Ctrl+Alt_F1) reinstalling X, plasma and other packages. Nothing! Then I reinstalled Kubuntu 15.04. It helped BUT: after editing GRUB config file (with Kate) and saving it, the same problem came back. As Kate editor connects both situations, I assume that it is messing something somewhere (??) Again, this will (hopefully) be fixed in KDE Applications 15.04.1, to be released tomorrow. Bug your distribution to include the fix in their packages or to update them.
