[Bug 1518597] Re: All system menus, as well as dolphin and other apps totally unreadable because of overlap

Fine, Chris.

Since it's only a workaround to degrade Java OpenJDK-7 in Kubuntu 14.04
to V.6 would sugest to leave it open until the fix is released/commited
& published. This may well take some more time, for whatever reason in
question. I'll associate this than to the package in question, as
duplicate..

best wishes

[Bug 1518597] Re: All system menus, as well as dolphin and other apps totally unreadable because of overlap

2015-11-24 Thread Chris Bertin
OK, major progress in isolating this issue, at least the root cause.
Culprit is java and the fact that it now creates thousands of shared
memory segments, for some reason (I am not running any java app I have
not been running for months or years but I did rebuild one using the
latest jdk). The messed up display issue arises when all shmem segments
are busy. All of them have a zero key, some of them claim to have 1 and
other 2 processes attached. Most but not all of them have the same size:

-- Shared Memory Limits
max number of segments = 4096
max seg size (kbytes) = 32768
max total shared memory (kbytes) = 8388608

When 'ipcs -m | wc -l' shows 4100 lines, the display messes up. Killing
the java processes frees up all the shmem segments.

$ ipcs -m | wc -l

Overlap issues go away.

2015-11-24 Thread dusoft
This gets solved on Kubuntu 14.04 / KDE by doing:

$ sudo chown root:root /usr/lib/kde4/libexec/kcheckpass
$ sudo chmod 4755 /usr/lib/kde4/libexec/kcheckpass

This bug reappears after every (system?) upgrade (!!!)

[Bug 1519310] [NEW] libqt4-core and all other binary packages should be uploaded to same repository component

2015-11-24 Thread Sneetsher
Public bug reported:

libqt4-core is a transitional package, uploaded to "universe" in the
official Ubuntu repository.

Its dependencies: libqtcore4 libqt4-xml libqt4-test libqt4-script
libqt4-network libqt4-dbus are uploaded to "main".

They are built from the same source package. This just creates an "unmet
dependency" error, if the user don't enable both components "universe"
(+"main" enabled by default) with same repositories of "updates",
"security" & "backports".

I think that the libqt4-core package and all other transitional packages
should be moved to "main".

I face this dependency problem on Ask Ubuntu, for more details:
