I actually failed to mention that before the update I was experiencing the crash. Yes Gunter you might be correct. For me it is a freeze but seems related since other people have reported the same issue stating the revert of the two commits solved the freeze issue. There are no GPU hangs in the kernel logs (I just wanted to stress that out). Perhaps every 2 days. Initially it is working find (let's say 2-3 days) and once it hangs (note no GPU hang kernel logs) perhaps every day. I have the same issue (issue #1).

The best work-around I developed is a script:
qdbus org.kde.plasmashell /PlasmaShell
org.kde.PlasmaShell.evaluateScript 'for(id in panelIds) { var panel =
panelById(panelIds[id]); if (panel.hiding == "autohide") {
panel.hiding="none";panel.hiding="autohide" }}'
But it works only when widgets are unlocked. And I found no way to
unlock them programatically.
So if you can live with unlocked widgets, you can add a keyboard
shortcut for this script (or for appropriate D-bus command).
