Having time to look into this a bit further, it seems actually to be a bug. The extras-repository has been given up for releases > 15.04 in favour of the packages "restricted extras-*buntu" To my rememberance on installation of Wily-Kubuntu this repository was not marked as active as a standard, even though it's listed. So this probably needed some action from the user. Then this is no bug - but a help-inquiry. whereas Launchpad-bugs is not a sufficient place to go for it. Information on places to seek help, has been given in a prior bug-report with the same subject. Reviewing your log files attached to this bug report it seems that there is a problem with your installation media (CD/DVD). You can verify the integrity of the Ubuntu ISO files you downloaded by following the instructions at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HowToMD5SUM. Thank you for your quick reply. After trying a different installation (LinuxMint KDE)with the same resulting bug I searched the Linux Forums wherein some of the experienced Linux users did not hold Unetbootin in high regard so I concluded the problem was in my Unetbootin Live USB software. Consequently I discovered and used the same type of program loaded with my install of LinuxMint KDE 17x and lo and behold the iso images loaded and I had no more problems.
