I am prompted for a password if i access something like smb://young/homes/ in Konqueror by typing it in the URI field, was this how you were trying? I cant confirm this (at least for ftp) with kde 3.5.3, kubuntu dapper. Note that the username and password is case sensitive. Could there be bad config files or something causing this?
