[Bug 1762864] [NEW] kate cannot run as root
Public bug reported: Very simple, I need to be able to run kate via sudo in konsole. Setting a variable (SUDO_EDITOR...) is not acceptable. Trying to run I get this: $ sudo kate heh Executing Kate as root is not possible. To edit files as root use: SUDO_EDITOR=kate sudoedit No. I don't need baby sitting, I'm perfectly fine without kate trying to hold my hand and tell me what's right and whats wrong. I can run many different editors via sudo and get the job done, I prefer using kate. Kate is good and it's great for what I do. If upstream is unable to comprehend this problem or refuses to fix, can we please get a non-neutered version for grownups? $ sudo apt-cache policy kate kate: Installed: 4:17.12.3-0ubuntu1 Candidate: 4:17.12.3-0ubuntu1 Version table: *** 4:17.12.3-0ubuntu1 500 500 http://mirror.pnl.gov/ubuntu bionic/universe amd64 Packages 500 http://repos.forethought.net/ubuntu bionic/universe amd64 Packages 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu bionic/universe amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status $ lsb_release -rd Description:Ubuntu Bionic Beaver (development branch) Release:18.04 ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 18.04 Package: kate 4:17.12.3-0ubuntu1 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 4.15.0-13.14-generic 4.15.10 Uname: Linux 4.15.0-13-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.20.9-0ubuntu4 Architecture: amd64 CurrentDesktop: KDE Date: Tue Apr 10 17:00:30 2018 InstallationDate: Installed on 2017-07-05 (279 days ago) InstallationMedia: Kubuntu 17.04 "Zesty Zapus" - Release amd64 (20170412) SourcePackage: kate UpgradeStatus: Upgraded to bionic on 2018-04-10 (0 days ago) ** Affects: kate (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug bionic -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to kate in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1762864 Title: kate cannot run as root To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/kate/+bug/1762864/+subscriptions -- kubuntu-bugs mailing list kubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-bugs
