Same problem here that csh mentions. Using Kubuntu Fiesty with backports
and kubuntu.org/packages/kde-stable enabled. Was working ok before 3.5.7
upgrade. apt-get works fine.

[Bug 1762864] [NEW] kate cannot run as root

2018-04-10 Thread clickwir
Public bug reported:

Very simple, I need to be able to run kate via sudo in konsole. Setting
a variable (SUDO_EDITOR...) is not acceptable.

Trying to run I get this:

$ sudo kate heh
Executing Kate as root is not possible. To edit files as root use:
SUDO_EDITOR=kate sudoedit

No. I don't need baby sitting, I'm perfectly fine without kate trying to
hold my hand and tell me what's right and whats wrong.

I can run many different editors via sudo and get the job done, I prefer
using kate. Kate is good and it's great for what I do.

If upstream is unable to comprehend this problem or refuses to fix, can
we please get a non-neutered version for grownups?
