The gtk front end already has this. Since this is something it would be easy to disable (drop the new u/i), I would certainly entertain an FFe request if it was only going to miss feature freeze by a little. I test it on a netbook which is 1024x600. We should support 1024 X 576. Trying to support 800 X 480 would require a lot of redesign. Also, when I looked into it, systems that small are designed with local screen features that allow you pan around a larger display so you can manage with things designed for larger screens (i.e. everything). OK, let's define 1024x576 as the minimum resolution then. This means I can remove some eeepc-resolution-specific code. I love the concept. Can't wait to see it done. Right now when you install Kubuntu in French (and I suspect in other languages), many sentences are truncated. I started to look into it last week, turning the Ubiquity window into a more classic window, with less borders, and which can be resized and maximized to take advantage of available screen space. I would like to continue a bit on this and refresh its appearance, so that it is more functional but remain aesthetically pleasing. Attached is a low-fi mockup of what I have in mind. This new layout makes better use of available space, leaving more room for the main content. Before I get started, I have two questions: 1. Is this change something you would welcome? 2. Assuming you like the idea, what would be the deadline to get this ready for 13.04? The static layout is problematic for the problems you've seen so I'm all for fixing that. Keep in mind it needs to work on netbook sized screens and that the bling is always appreciated. Deadline for new features is March 7th so get it in before then and fix the bugs after. What would be the minimal screen size we need to support? I know HP Mini 1000 have 1024x576 screens [1].
