I've managed to reproduce this briefly. As soon as I started debugging
it, however, it went away.

Does this reproduce regularly for you? Do you run kvm as a user that
has access to /dev/rtc?

I can volunteer to translate all that Frenchie into proper English, if
you want, Jef.

Also, your README, NEWS and AUTHORS files are empty. I understand that
your project is still very young, but you should at least provide your
name and mail in the AUTHORS file, as well as some basic instructions in
the README file.

Thanks for the project nevertheless :)

The clock in my 64-bit virtual machine runs at two times the speed of the clock
on my 64-bit, dual core host. For example, if I run `sleep 10', it only sleeps
for 5 real seconds. And `watch -n 0.1 date' clearly shows the clock running
faster than normal.

As you can see, I've properly set rtc/max-user-freq to 1024 on the host before
I started the virtual machine.

I've tried passing `notsc' and/or `clock=pit' to the (64-bit) guest kernel, but
that doesn't help.

I am going to try rebooting my machine with only one core enabled, to see if
perhaps that fixes the problem. (It's just a hunch, but it's worth a shot.)

Thanks,

Thomas Tuttle

I haven't done anything specifically with respect to /dev/rtc. How do

The normal unix permissions on /dev/rtc. If you're running as root, you
have them.

I got:

lr-x-- 1 root root 64 Mar  6 10:12 4 -> /dev/rtc

indicating that qemu has access to /dev/rtc.

Your /usr/include/linux/usbdevice_fs.h is invalid. It contains kernel
defines, so it cannot be used to build userspace programs, like qemu.

If /usr/include/linux/usbdevice_fs.h belongs to one of your
distribution's package, you should file a bug to maintainer about
this. Headers must be cleaned of __user and similar defines. Kernel
build system do this when making 'headers_instal' target.

If not, you should clean them up manually.

# Eliminate the contents of (and inclusions of) compiler.h
HDRSED  := sed  -e "s/ inline / __inline__ /g" \

(from linux-2.6.18/scripts/Makefile.headersinst).

[kvm-devel] strange error loading kvm module on latest FC6 kernel

2007-03-06 Thread Greg M Lee
Hi
updated to latest FC6 kernel yesterday ie 2.6.19-1.2911.6.5.fc6
compiled kvm-15 from sourceforge this morning
chose the unpatched kernel instructions [ was this the right choice ?]
configure, make, make install all went fine (some warnings here and
there)
modprobe kvm-intel gave a bunch of errors in dmesg the first of which
was: SELinux: initialized (dev kvmfs, type kvmfs), not configured for
labeling

so I disabled SELinux
modprobe kvm-intel still gave a bunch of errors in dmesg:

kvm_intel: Unknown symbol gfn_to_memslot
kvm_intel: Unknown symbol set_cr3
kvm_intel: Unknown symbol segment_base
kvm_intel: Unknown symbol kvm_get_msr_common

kvm_intel: Unknown symbol kvm_read_guest
kvm_intel: Unknown symbol kvm_set_msr_common
kvm_intel: Unknown symbol save_msrs
kvm_intel: Unknown symbol kvm_resched
which I figure is due to the stderr/stdout error:

# modprobe kvm
FATAL: Error inserting kvm
(/lib/modules/2.6.19-1.2911.6.5.fc6/extra/kvm.ko): Success

What should I try next ?

Cheers

Re: [kvm-devel] strange error loading kvm module on latest FC6 kernel

Hi
updated to latest FC6 kernel yesterday ie 2.6.19-1.2911.6.5.fc6
compiled kvm-15 from sourceforge this morning
chose the unpatched kernel instructions [ was this the right choice ?]
configure, make, make install all went fine (some warnings here and
there)
modprobe kvm-intel gave a bunch of errors in dmesg the first of which
was: SELinux: initialized (dev kvmfs, type kvmfs), not configured for
labeling

Ouch. Anybody here know how to deal with that?

so I disabled SELinux
modprobe kvm-intel still gave a bunch of errors in dmesg:

kvm_intel: Unknown symbol gfn_to_memslot

Try with the attached patch. Unfortunately you also have to reboot.

KVM: Fix bogus failure in kvm.ko module initialization

A bogus 'return r' can cause an otherwise successful module load to fail.
This both denies users the use of kvm, and it also denies them the use of
their machine, as it leaves a filesystem registered with its callbacks
pointing into now-freed module memory.

Fix by returning a zero like a good module.

Thanks to Richard Lucassen <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> (?) for reporting
the problem and for providing access to a machine which exhibited it.
