[libreoffice-l10n] Search for strings in Pootle

2011-11-28 Thread Olivier Hallot

Hi

Is the search funciotn realllyyy working in our Pootle installation?

Two issues I am facing, while I am at the root tree of teh UI or HC.

- I can't find a tring by a given keyID...

- In one out of three trials I can find a string in the repo. Some
obvious and unique strings returns nothing (and has no accelerator).

Am I the only one who miss such feature?

Thanks

Neither can I. This is a must have. If now we have keyID to identify
strings, but can´t find them (by search) at pootle what do we need them for?

Sometimes happens to me. Same words different days. In one appears, on the
other doesn´t.

For KeyID search, in Search dropdown tick the Comment checkbox, too.
Make sure you read the KeyID well (e.g. 0 is not O and l is not I).

Andras

Re: [libreoffice-l10n] Inconsistencies with percent and degree signs

2011-11-28 Thread Andras Timar
Hi Mihkel,

2011/11/27 Mihkel Tõnnov mihh...@gmail.com:
 Hi *,

I found a few inconsistencies regarding the usage of % and ° signs in
 LibreOffice, esp. the 3.5 branch.
In most places, where a number has % or ° sign after it, there is no space
 between them. However:
 1) In the View - Zoom dialog, there's 100 %.
 2) In the new Color Picker dialog (e.g. Tools - Options - Colors - Edit),
all % and ° signs are separated from numbers with a space.

Even if there is no consensus about the % in English [1], the degree sign
shouldn't be spaced in that context [2], and the usage should certainly be
 consistent within one project.

Many thanks for the bug report. I pushed the fix a few minutes ago.

Best regards,
Andras

This is exactly the same reason as for the OpenOffice.org string in
 the other thread →  see
 http://www.mail-archive.com/l10n@global.libreoffice.org/msg03489.html

Allow me to disagree in this case, although it comes close...

Well, everybody is entitled to his/her own opinion.

 If I rebrand
LO as WhateverOffice, then the string will be

Extension requires at least WhateverOffice version %VERSION

No. As you wrote yourself it is not using the placeholder, but
hardcodes LibreOffice.

Again: The extension doesn't care about what brand of the software
you're running - those things refer to the API compatibility as
defined by the reference implementation LibreOffice version

Or, in an attempt to remove ambiguities,  we should say perhaps:

Extension requires at least a version of WhateverOffice compatible with
 OpenOffice.org version %VERSION,

This use long for no specific reason. But yes, that is the meaning.
But that message is useless, as the user cannot tell what version of
WhateverOffice will correspond to that.

since we are still umbilically connected to our OOo mothercode,
 extension-wise.

*still*. Yes. But just refer to the links I posted in the other
message. This explains why there is the need for both hardcoded
OpenOffice.org as well as LibreOffice strings.

Even your suggestion will not work without those hardcoded strings.
you would then just have an additional %PRODUCTNAME in the string.
I don't know whether that string is displayed in its own dialog (and
thus the length would not really matter) or whether it is displayed in
a single line in some statusarea of another dialog.

Feel free to suggest a change to
Extension requires at least a version of %PRODUCTNAME compatible with
OpenOffice.org version %VERSION, and
Extension requires at least a version of %PRODUCTNAME compatible with
LibreOffice version %VERSION

So you can have an *additional* %PRODUCTNAME, but the hardcoded
OpenOffice.org or LibreOffice must stay.

ciao
Christian

There will be no switch.

Maybe this overview will help:

MonthsOfYear element if the GenitiveMonths element is not
  specified
* consists of same elements as MonthsOfYear element
* if PartitiveMonths are not specified then GenitiveMonths names
are used, if that is not specified then MonthsOfYear names are
  used

* Rules for use of nominative / genitive / partitive case month names in
number formatter when encountering MMM or :
  * MMM or immediately preceded or followed by a literal character
other than space = nominative month name (noun), for Excel and
backwards compatibility such as Finnish ta
  * no day of month (D or DD) present in format code = nominative name

* no genitive names defined = nominative names
  * day of month (D or DD) before MMM or = partitive name

  * no genitive names defined = nominative names

* NOTE: if only MonthsOfYear and PartitiveMonths are specified but
not GenitiveMonths, then for D(D) MMM(M) formats the MonthsOfYear
nominative name is displayed. Only for MMM(M) D(D) formats the
  PartitiveMonths name is displayed.

No problem, there's enough for me to do :)

took the opportunity to fix some errors and do some additional small

My doubt now is whether LongDateMonthSeparater should be now voided.
Currently it is like that:LongDateMonthSeparator de
/LongDateMonthSeparator

That's fine.

But I don't want the months to have double preposition 8 de de

No, they don't, the separator is not used in formatting, only in parsing.

In Estonian 3.4.4 it's translated as well.
In Estonian 3.5 daily snapshot (2011-11-25) it's untranslated, but that's
probably because the strings changed for 3.5 and the translations of 3.5
