I am new to this. would you be so kind to guide me through this step by step please? You could either use a script to achieve this, or simply use a translation memory (TM) to transfer your strings. Software like Virtaal and Lokalize will do (and some more). For doing this with Lokalize here are some tips: Make a project for LO 3.3, configure all necessary info, then let Lokalize read all your project files into translation memory. Select all folders in the project window, then right click and choose 'Add to translation-memory'. Pull all LO 3.5 project files from Pootle in one Zip-file, unzip the folder structure into its own folder. Again, in Lokalize create a project for LO 3.5 (using the same TM, which is the default I think) and open it in the main window. For each of the files you can open them and choose Tools/Fill in all exact suggestions (and mark as fuzzy). Review and save the file. Beware that this procedure only fills in 100% identical translation strings, when reviewing other strings you may get suggestions for _similar_ strings, which may be easy to adapt into your project. There are also other ways to do this, but here I just described one quite simple procedure. Good luck for your work. [libreoffice-l10n] Doubt from Aragonese team
Dear all, I am the admin of the Aragonese (an, an_ES) localization team. As we are a small team, we decided to concentrate on a single big project at a time, and the decision at the beginning of the year was to prioritize the localization of Firefox. This is why the project of localizing LibO has not had any activity in the last weeks. Now that Firefox has been localized, the idea is that the team will focus on LibreOffice as well as on keeping updated Firefox localization. Here, I have one doubt. Will new localizations be added to the succesive 3.5.x releases? Or should we forget about LibO 3.5 and think in the next 3.6 release? If the answer is to go for 3.6, it's worth to begin with 3.5 localization and then convert to 3.6 files? For example Scottish Gaelic was added to 3.4.4. If you think that Aragonese translation will be in good shape later in the 3.5 cycle, then we can add it. Of course it makes sense to work on 3.5, even if we add Aragonese to 3.6 only. The major code cleanups have been done already, and the difference between 3.5 and 3.6 will not be big. [libreoffice-l10n] Survey about the usability of Virtaal
Hallo everybody A student at the University of Mainz in Germany, Almana Mukabenova, is doing some research on the usability of the FOSS translation tool Virtaal. Not entirely sure if this is a general development question or l10n. Is there a way of extracting (or even better, making public) the following: a) usage data of LO instances in a locale (akin to what Mozilla provide via their blacklist data) b) download data for a specific locale c) download/usage data for an extension? c) existed on the OO extension site and was a useful measure of uptake. a) should be possible since installed spellcheckers must communicate with the extension site to update. Part of the reason for asking is that we know uptake is low for locales like Gaelic and Irish but also, we're about to try different means of promoting them and would like to be able to get some data that allows us to say here's where we were, on this date we did X and suddenly Y shot up. AFAIK, the dictionaries don't communicate anymore with the extension site for updates (since 3.4?). Therefore dictionary updates are only feasible by packaging changed dictionaries into a new release.
