Re: [lace] Old question about old tree pattern

2007-06-30 Thread Jo Falkink

hello spiders

In case anyone is interested, I have a redrafted version with a less complex
route for the trunk, another version has a more squeezed shape. Somewhere
I've seen a smaller version with a variation on the fans, but I didn't save
the link.

Some examples to work with colour:
http://www.xs4all.nl/~falkink/groene-hart/plakboek/03_20jaar/index.htm
look also on the left under "het bos" (the wood)

Jo

I had saved this pattern in a Word file. So if you can open Word documents
here it is.

I know this was asked in the past, and I've tried the archives, but I'm
wondering if anyone has a copy of the free Old Tree pattern by Lenka.

[lace] Catalan Lace Day 2008(was RE: lace-digest V2007 #148)

2007-06-30 Thread Jenny De Angelis

Karen wrote
>

HI Karen,

This is news to me and I live in Catalunya. I have heard nothing about the
annual lace day not being held next year but will try to find out. I expect
Carolina will know something about it and might respond to the list on the
subject.

The Catalan Government is just that, a Government and not the local council.
Catalunya has an autonomous government, with it's own laws and police force,
amongst other things peculiar to Catalunya. Quite a lot different to a
Local Council and the powers that a local council has.

I might be wrong but as far as I know the Catalan government doesn't
organise the event it is organised between the Association of Lacemakers of
Catalunya and the Town Council of the town which has agreed to hold the
event. It may be that the Catalan Government helps with something towards
the cost but I haven't heard that it does this. The town holding the event
bears the large part of the cost I believe, with those participants who are
not members of the Assoc. of Lacemakers of Catalunya paying a few euros each
to attend. Members of the Assoc. do not pay as they have already paid their
subs. to the Association for the year and the Assoc., contributes something
towards the cost out of it's fund, I believe.

If it has been decided not to hold the event then it won't be anything to
do with the Catalan Government but more likely that no town has put it's
name forward to hold the event next year. It is an expensive event to put
on for any town and wherever it is held there needs to be a lot of space to
seat everyone as you can imagine. If it not held next year it does not
necessarily mean it will never be held again, it could be that a town will
agree to hold it in 2009, you never can tell.

Fingers crossed something will happen next year.It happened once before
that no town had come forward saying it was prepared to hold the event, then
a town unexpectedly stepped into the gap and held it at the last minute.

What a pity you didn't write to me about wanting to come to the event this
past April, we had spare seats on our table and could have squeezed you into
one of them. You could have come just as a spectator, as Jane knows it is a
sight to see. You could have browsed the suppliers stalls, we usually have
about 30, sometimes up to 50, suppliers stands which come from all over
Spain and a few from Belgium and France too.

I will try to find out if it "is" to be held next year and if it is what the
likely place will be and let you know. Unless Carolina posts something in
the meantime. So don't give up hope of attending our lace day just yet.

Regards
Jenny DeAngelis.
Spain.

The background image is big (for a web page, 352Kb) but the other
images are small, around 20Kb.
More likely to be your browser taking time to display because of all
the validation errors.

I wonder if it is simply taking a long time to load. I have fairly
fast broadband provider, but it is still noticeable that the pictures
load a little bit after the text

Re: [lace] German lace site 2

2007-06-30 Thread Brenda Paternoster

Hello Jean

To which my reply is "What little pictures?" The arrow stays an arrow
except on the five blocked links on the lefthand side. Yes, I do have
pictures showing on all other sites. I am using Windows XP on a high
spec Sony laptop with automatic Windows and Sony updates.

I've looked at the site using all the Mac browsers I have (Safari,
Netscape, IE, Opera, Firefox, iCab, Mozilla, Camino and Sunrise; they
all work fine (the only one which doesn't is Amaya which is a bit odd
anyway).

Assuming you've gone from
http://www.forum-alte-spitze.de/
and clicked on the USA flag to go to
http://www.forum-alte-spitze.de/FAS_Hauptseite_e.html

you should see white lace on a black background
'Forum (logo) alt Spitze' in blue with some cream lace hanging from the
logo.
White on blue navigation boxes to the left (hand curser which tells you
there are links to other pages)

below that a b&w picture with the yellow words 'outlook/news'
seven other b&w pictures scattered over the page with white writing
below each.

When you put your curser over any of the b&w pictures they become
coloured and the curser changes to a hand, again to tell you that it's
pointing to a linked page.

I've run the page through the W3C validator and it came back with 76
errors - the first of which was the lack of a doctype declaration which
can cause a lot of problems. There is also a lot of JavaScript but the
script type isn't defined, so that could be the problem. The page
appears to have been put together using Adobe GoLive and has a lot of
proprietary stuff in there which doesn't validate, so another possible
reason why your browser doesn't like it.

Do you have any browsers other than IE7 installed on your PC? It's
always worth having at least one other browser there just for occasions
like this when the one of your choice doesn't like a particular
website.

None of the links work for me (Internet Explorer 7). Anyone else had
this problem?

Outlook/News orAusblick/Aktuelles (depending on whether I'm on the
American or German page) is yellow, with the rest of the links in
white, but none lead anywhere.

Re: [lace] Binche sampler 'kompakt'

2007-06-30 Thread bevw
Just looking at the picture of the front cover, because it is a 'sampler'
its use is more in the making of it as a learning tool, rather than making a
piece of lace to use, such as a mat on a table. Then as Robin pointed out,
it is a 'spiral square' rather a unique artwork there. We could use hidden
threads or even glue to fix it in place on a board :)

[lace] Male Lacemakers/Contemporary lacemakers

2007-06-30 Thread Julian Jefferson
Calling all male lacemakers. I thought it would be great to demonstrate
that male lacemakers are alive and producing great lace. On the website
that I am currently developing I have links to the male lacemakers that
I have found on the net. Not everyone wants to develop their own
website. So I thought I would publish some pages which showcase male
lacemakers and their lace. If you would like to be included or know of
someone please send me some pictures of your lace along with some biog
details - perhaps including why you make lace. Apologies to you
lacemakers who are excluded due to the fact that you are of the fairer
sex but I would call this as positive discrimination

Contemporary Lacemakers:
I also want to link to other contemporary lace makers out there. Anyone
wanting to link please email me.

Thanks

Julian

Hello Jean

It's working for me; I've tried it with Safari, Firefox and Internet
Explorer (all Mac versions)
The links are not actually on the words, but on the little pictures
above the words - the ones that become coloured when the curser is
rolled over them (and the arrow turns into a hand)
