[lace] pillow suppliers USA

2008-12-04 Thread Agnes Boddington

Hello all

I just received a question from a customer on ebay in the USA:
Where can you buy cokokie pillows in the USA, apart from the uncovered
ones by Ken van Dieren?

Anyone have an answer for me?

How right you are!

I have several lace and other Christmas ornaments from Christmas
exchanges and I can't remember who some of them are from.

Maybe I should put up a web page with them all an and ask if anyone
recognised their work!

Hi Agnes,

There are quite a few very good vendors in the US, and your customer
only has to google lacemaking supplies to find lots of them.

Re: [lace] Card Exchange

2008-12-04 Thread Janice Blair
I like the fact that Lori printed her design on a card and then attached the
lace so you could take it off and put it on the tree and still have the card.
One other tip which I should have done sooner is to add the name and address
of the sender on the back.  I have some cards that only have the first name
inside and as I say, my memory is getting worse as I grow older.  It is nice
to look back and see where in the world they have all come from.

It is a few days old already.

Hello Dorcas,

on Saturday your pretty Christmas card arrived. I love the tatted
ring. It is so special!
Thank you very much! I will scan it and send the scan to be put on the
website.

It is great to have such an early Christmas card. I don't think I ever
had one so early and a
pretty handmade one, too.

Other vendors would be:
VanSciver
The Lacemaker
Lacy Susan

No allegiance to any particular vendor.

[lace] 2008 Arachne Card exchange reminder

2008-12-04 Thread Jenny Brandis

Hello one and all

This is a gentle reminder to send me your scans and photos of your lace
that you are sending to your Arachne card exchange partner as soon as
you could. I am in the process of doing the website and would like to
have as many as possible up and viewable soon. To date I have just 13.

Please send them to [EMAIL PROTECTED] or [EMAIL PROTECTED]
along with your name, your recipients name and any details you would
like to tell me.

So far we have two ladies who have generously provided their original
patterns so they will be available for download closer to Christmas. If
you have not sent in yours yet, there is still time to do so and I know
the patterns are very well received across the world.

For those who have ornaments instead of, or with, their cards, take a photocopy
before putting the lace on the tree (or wherever it goes). Most lace
ornaments, especially when intended for mailing, are flat enough to do that.
You can note on the paper who it's from, when you received it, the
circumstances (secret pal, card exchange, etc.) and keep the photocopy with
your ornaments or with important documents or some other, memorable place.
Then as the memory fades, refer to the paper.

[lace] 2008 Arachne Card exchange website update

2008-12-04 Thread Jenny Brandis

Hello fellow lace makers

The website is designed and half ready but getting filled slowly, I am
up to card number 14 of the 27 received but will have the rest up over
the next week, thus giving the cards time to get to their intended
recipients. If you want a quick sneak peek of the first 13 cards ...
http://www.brandis.com.au/Arachne/2008/index.html just remember it is a
work in progress.

I have not asked Pene (perhaps I should) just how many cards are in this
years Arachne Card Exchange - I have received scans for 27 so far, three
of which comes with prickings or instructions so again there will be two
sorts of PDF. The first one will be for the pattern you are viewing and
the second will include all the patterns. This way you can download a
single file with all the patterns or the individual files.

Some stats on last year

The website hosts a total of 44 cards from US; UK; AUS; CA; IT; DE;
Puerto Rico; SA; NZ and Estonia

We really are an international group!

The Arachne 2006 pattern PDF file has been viewed/downloaded 1526 times
The Arachne 2007 pattern PDF file has been viewed/downloaded 3029 times
The Arachne 2007 individual PDF files have been viewed/downloaded 1357 times

Well, that's it for now. Happy viewing.

[lace-chat] :-) A biker was riding along....

2008-12-04 Thread jeanette
Are we really this difficult??

Jeanette Fischer, Western Cape, South Africa.

A biker was riding along a California beach when suddenly the sky clouded
above his head and, in a booming voice, the Lord said,

Because you have TRIED to be faithful to me in all ways, I will grant you
one wish.

The biker pulled over and said,

Build a bridge to Hawaii so I can ride over anytime I want.

The Lord said,

Your request is materialistic. Think of the enormous challenges for that
kind of undertaking. The supports required to reach the bottom of the
Pacific! The concrete and steel it would take! It will nearly exhaust
several natural resources. I can do it, but it is hard for Me to justify
your desire for worldly things. Take a little more time and think of
something that could possibly help mankind.

The biker thought about it for a long time Finally he said,

Lord, I wish that I and all men could understand our wives. I want to  know
how she feels inside, what she's thinking when she gives me the silent
treatment, why she cries, what she means when she says nothing's wrong, and
how I can make a woman truly happy.

The Lord replied,

You want two lanes or four on that bridge?.

[lace-chat] :) Fwd: Putting your affairs in order

2008-12-04 Thread Tamara P Duvall

From: R.P.

A woman went to her doctor. The doctor, after an examination, sighed
and said, 'I've some bad news. You have cancer, and you'd best put your
affairs in order.'

The woman was shocked, but managed to compose herself and walk into the
waiting room where her daughter had been waiting. 'Well daughter, we
women celebrate when things are good, and we celebrate when things
don't go so well. In this case, things aren't well. I have cancer.
Let's head to the club and have a martini.'

After 3 or 4 martinis, the two were feeling a little less somber. There
were some laughs and more martinis. They were eventually approached by
some of the woman's old friends, who were curious as to what the two
were celebrating. The woman told her friends they were drinking to her
impending end. 'I've been diagnosed with AIDS.'

The friends were aghast and gave the woman their condolences.

After the friends left, the daughter leaned over and whispered, 'Momma,
I thought you said you were dying of cancer, and you just told your
friends you were dying of AIDS.'

The woman said, 'I don't want any of them sleeping with your father
after I'm gone.'

Now, that's 'Putting Your Affairs In Order'!
